Why can't I have a concealed carry?

I'm 19, national guard, heading to Afghanistan within the next year, have I not earned my 2nd amendment right? I can actually get a conceal license, but can't buy a handgun except through private trade. Why can't I go to a gun store and buy one like a normal voting adult? I can't drink a beer with my dad before I go and now I have to ask him if I can borrow his handguns?

While I wouldn't try this in Real Life, I have neither the time, nor funding for the legal battle, nor the desire to be in custody while it plays out.
You have these rights. There's just a division in America about whether the Constitution gives, or, enumerates already possessed rights.

The phrasing is not necessarily correct.

Legally, from an FFL, you may not purchase a Hand gun (Pistol, Revolver, or Derringer). You are allowed to purchase a long gun (Shotgun or Rifle). Additionally, you may not purchase ammunition of hand guns.

Do I agree with it? No. Is it consistent with previous SCOTUS Rulings regarding Public Safety and 18-20 year olds? Yes.

Have you had any traffic violations or any misdemeanors against you? I had to have my record expunged even tho they were not felony charges. I could carry and was legal as long as I already had a pistol but couldn't purchase until my record was expunged, even with a CCP.

1. Write your Congressperson and explain your predicament (without whining) and explain how you were given this right by the second amendment and want to know how you can assist in getting that right given back to you properly.

2. Move to Texas.

It could be worse, you could live someplace like California where the county Sheriff determines who gets a concealed carry license/permit. San Diego county has one of the highest concentrations of Active Duty and Veterans but Sheriff Gore requires you show a qualified "need" to justify concealed carry. He finally lost a lawsuit filed in 2008 in a decision by the 9th circuit but is delaying as long as he can to comply.

Because it suits our government's purpose to treat 18-20 year olds as a group of people incapable of making good decisions - as opposed to championing individual accountability and holding those 18-20 year olds who make bad decisions accountable for their actions. Just pause for a second and consider what our country would be like if 18-year olds were encouraged and expected to exercise individual accountability in their word and deed - the calamity that would result would be monumental. While I meant that with extreme sarcasm, I believe it is entirely true from the perspective of those who believe they know better than we do what's good for us...

Many of us want to throw the BS flag on that one too. Old enough to go into combat, not old enough to buy a beer? With all this equality stuff being a top DoD priority, you'd think they are used to making changes to the military by now.

One doesn't earn rights, PFC Private RallyPoint Member, they're endemic, but I agree with you on the age thing. The Militia Act of 1958 says you'd be in the inactive Militia if you weren't in the Guard, so you should be allowed...indeed REQUIRED...to keep and bear arms.

You're 19 so I don't expect you to believe it, but not everything is about you.

If an irresponsible teenager has his, "gat" I don't want him to get away with it just because he has a permit. Just because you're responsible doesn't mean most teenagers are.

People make a lot of stupid decisions throughout their lives, but hormones exasperate them. If you're going to have a steady, reserved bunk in a jailhouse, your name is going in the log book around that time. Trust and fidelity, just like anything else, has to be proven and earned.

PFC Private RallyPoint Member, the best tip I can give you is to move to Alaska. Residents over 18 can buy a handgun here. Also you can carry concealed without a permit. If you get you permit however, there are reciprocal agreements with the following states:
Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania,
South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming.
Interestingly, if you have a CC license from another state, Alaska will only recognize it if you are over the age of 21.
Of course you still have to follow local laws, so if you move to Alaska and decide to travel back home before you are of legal age to buy a handgun in your state, you won't be able to use the agreement with Alaska to concealed carry there.
