Why did you decide to join RallyPoint?

When you first saw the ads, saw a post of facebook, or were approached by someone what was the selling point that made you decide to join?

Was it out of boredom, out of curiosity, favor to a friend, or were you drawn to brother/sisterhood?

To be honest, I don't remember the first thing that drew me to the site. I do recall I was asked to look at it by a friend and once I did, I felt the potential for a service related camaraderie that I was certainly missing.
That has kept me here and why I continue to interact.

I first heard of RallyPoint from an individual who thought there was too much information about service members (especially) and retirees on the site. He thought it was an OPSEC concern. That prompted me to check it out, I liked what I saw, and the rest is history.

It was on deployment last year when I first saw an ad about RP. Didn't know much about this site and joined anyways. Well the OPTEMPO became too busy there and I had completely forgotten about RP until I returned to the US. Ever since then, I have taken a few minutes every few days to see what is new in the Army. Great site as long as the RP community keeps it that way. FB cannot relate to the threads on RP at all. Good day.

A couple of the local veterans liked the site on Facebook. I checked it out, and liked the interaction. It's not a bunch of guys downing everything and f this and f that.

I was looking for Veteran Apps that would help with resources for my job as a Peer Support Specialist. Found a local veteran who wanted to go hiking with some one. I am a member of the Portland Metro Veterans Connection and we are planning a few hikes soon. So connecting with veterans.

I joined the first day RallyPoint opened to active service members the day after Veterans day in 2012. There was quite a bit of local digital media coverage and a friend of mine actually wrote a story about it. Seemed like it might be useful to a newly commissioned 2LT, and I was right!

Actually, I saw an ad on Face Book about it. At first I thought that it was a site to reunite with some old buddies of mine. I was able to accomplish connecting with a couple of old pals, but then I found something a bit more about RP that I liked- the feeling of camaraderie between fellow RP members.

Found out about RP reading about Business School, heard a story about how two Veterans at HBS had designed a social network exclusive to the military and vets and thought it sounded like a neat idea, pretty impressed with the tool and how it's working. Kudos to LTC Yinon Weiss and CPT Aaron Kletzing.

Networking, see who I knew and could connect with. It is quite the breath of fresh air compared to other social networks. It is a great way for me to gain perspective with things going on in the military and a way for me to learn how to connect with my peers and leaders so that I can know what I can do for them.

I joined out of curiosity but it became a love affair. A site dedicated solely to, "us and those like us" what a concept! The best part is making new and enduring friendships based on mutual experiences.

My son SSG Steven Borders got me to check it out. He said it was a great site to share and learn. And that it was just military folks past and present. Been hooked ever since. Another benefit is there are some really great people on here.

LTC Private RallyPoint Member I joined RP after seeing an add. I was struck by the members and was seeking the camaraderie I had known in the Army and Marine Corps. I have found this to be a great place to share, learn, and grow. There are a wide variety of topics, many differing viewpoints, and an environment which encourages sharing. In sum, it has far exceeded my expectations. While we don't typically meet in person, I have met and became acquainted with SFC Private RallyPoint Member and he influenced me to transfer my lifetime VFW membership.

This is a great forum and I look forward to seeing new posts and meeting new people.

A bond the military is like a big professional family and upon hearing the news and doing research about Ft. McClellan and i found it to be true. I was bound and determined to tell other people who may have been there and sick like me. Never knowing why they were sick. I had felt so alone when I found out and wish I would have had the support that all the wonderful people on here have back then when I found out. So now the truth is out and many are finding out and now I have this wonderful Rallypoint as a family who understands and knows what is being talked about. As long as you will have me. To try to talk to people who do not have a clue, like the first civilian psychologist sitting there saying yeh oh I see well times up, that was no help.
You wonderful people have given me information on things I can do to help which I was up two days in a row and even went to the store but down today. But at least up two days down one maybe tomorrow is up so it will be less detoxing, fasting and the probiotics I was told to use from a wonderful man here has not got rid of everything but I surely do feel a bit better. Also found a channel on tv that does PT for people with disabilities and my in home nurse even sees it the blood pressure down under the 90 now. So to those of you who are just finding out pass the advise along to your dr. see if it can help you too and remember I'm praying for you and know truely how you feel to have so much wrong. But we are strong and still worth a lot so keep up the good fight. A heart of a soldier never dies neither does their training.

It seems like a good place to have discussions about things only we would really understand. The military isn't a job, it's a life; and only the people who lived or still live this life can understand some of the things we talk about. Down the road, we may still be able to connect with people we once served with or even meet people where we may soon be stationed, which means it helps with building your new network, get advice, or other information.
