Isn't it possible that American doctors are merely treating patients in the manner to which they were trained? Decades ago I read an interesting report of American doctors who had traveled to an underdeveloped area of the world to help those lacking the wonders of modern medical care. Their results were poor. Stripped of access to modern equipment and pharmacies, their performance was no better than local witch doctors practicing their primitive remedies. Even more interesting, when the American doctors worked cooperatively with the local witch doctors, the results were amazingly improved, better than either achieved working independently. It seems that both had something to offer. And keep in mind, if a doctor fails to follow accepted practices of treatment, they're going to have the crap sued out of them. I would bet Drug companies are sitting on cures to a wide range of illness's but it is more profitable to hand out watered down management at Thousands of dollars a pop. Continuing education credits are supplied by the various pharmaceutical companies for re-licensure which Drs must do every two years. Of course these seminars are used by the drug companies as sales calls where they train the Drs to take the easy and legally safe way out by covering their bases with pharmaceutical treatments to lesson their malpractice profiles. "Defensive Medicine" is a growing trend in America due to the profitable malpractice litigation industry, causing Drs to follow along the paths of least exposure to litigation risk. The Big Pharma companies have time tested proven courtroom strategies that do just that, so that turns out to be wise way to practice if you want to last. It's sad, and much of it is based on unsound "science", but it is safer for Drs to always treat or over-treat legally then to under-treat and be exposed to negligence malpractice. The fall back position is always over-treat, and the court proven strategy is pharmaceuticals. It is also time-saving to just write scripts, allowing Drs to see more patients and hence bill more patients, It is readily accepted by insurance companies, so 3rd party reimbursment rates are high, and most medical payment today are 3rd party. and last but not least, Drs receive "bonuses" and rewards for pushing drugs for pharmaceutical companies, within and outside of the law. If you want to know more, talk to a pharmaceutical sales rep. Most of them will tell you all kinds of stories about Drs ask their advice for treatments and patient care even though most pharma reps have no medical training at all. It'll scare the carp out of you!
