Why do I randomly owe 700+ to the army?

For some reason my LES says that I randomly owe 700+ dollars and took a huge chunk of money out of my deposit, I'm confused as to what I should do and who to contact. I find it annoying that over 300 dollars was deducted from my most recent deposit and I wasnt given notice as to why. Anything will help thanks.

Your first stop should be accounting and finance office with LES in hand and make a civil inquiry.

More than likely it was due to an overpayment, but i'd file a pay inquiry with your finance department or DFAS. DFAS loves taking money from soldiers and hoping you wont notice.

Hmm at the bottom of your LES it should state why. If not file a pay inquiry. If you just graduated BCT you might owe for some stuff but I do not see that being 1000. Do you owe child support or anything else? I have seen that a lot when a child support court order gets filed and SNM doesn't know it and finance has to file it and has no control on how much is token out if there is back pay owed.

What does your LES say? What does your Finance folks say. They have to have paperwork in order to hit your pay. Start checking with your CoC and support folks.

Your first stop needs to be with your supervisor. Notify them that you are having a financial issue. He/she will need to see your last few LES's. If it was me, I would have them ready so my supervisor could act upon my pay issue faster.

Also, check at the bottom of the LES. You may be able to find notes that indicate why the money was deducted.

Have you recently moved? Perhaps you have a family and had them come join you? They will take money if you shipped household goods over the amount authorized. I learned that lesson. Go to finance with your LES and ask why. They should be able to run down the information for you.

The notes section on the bottom of your LES should say "debt incurred" and a date. That date is your clue to figure out why.
If I were a betting man, I'd say that you did not fully clear CIF at training and have a statement of charges against some gear you were supposed to turn in.
To fix it, you need to suss out what is the issue and see if you can remedy it through the appropriate process. Your initial POC (after your NCO, of course) is the Unit Administrator, who will handle any pay inquiry.
I bet it is an issue with supply.

You actually get a notice 3 months ahead of when it will be taken. It's on the notes of your LES. You need to look at every LES you get.
