Why do so few RallyPoint members "like/thumb up" questions, links, and responses?

I've been on RallyPoint for nearly two years and I've seen some incredible discussion, responses, and news articles; however what I don't see as often are users using the "like/thumb up" function to provide feedback. This is a curious thing in my opinion. I always utilize the "like/thumb up" function as a means to convert my appreciation. Am I the only one who's noticed this trend?

Just a few weeks ago I had a response garner 299 thumbs up as of yesterday. So I think folks are using their thumbs!

If you are a leader, please describe more of your perceptions. As ? said, more 'thumbs up'? You may be onto something, but many respondents fail to give a thumbs up although they will expound on the post. There is also negligence/non-observance of ? protocol by failure to respond to the postor by name/addressor profile's address name.

I use the thumb up all the time. In fact I often "run out" of up votes.

The up votes I have seen here are generally in support of the opinion expressed. Folks that disagree seldom vote their opposites up.

I almost always vote people up that engage me in conversation - unless they are borderline abusive.

You have a few here who don't like anything but do hit the Thumb Down often to feel more important than they really are, I guess??

I don't like to thumb up or down... even on face book I don't up vote comments because usually if I down vote it is usually in the tone of my comment... If I make a joke it is an up vote.. if I am getting nasty then it is a down vote

Inasmuch as I'm somewhat opinionated I'm simply happy I'm not being voted down more often. I use vote or thumbs up like "Ditto" so I don't repeat what has already been said. If I then comment it is to add a thought

I noticed this almost immediately after joining the site.
For my part, the questioner often doesn't elaborate enough in the OP to earn an up vote. It is not until the conversation gets rolling that salient points are most often made.

If someone takes the time to respond to a comment of mine or a post of mine, then I will "like/thumb up" their response because it's the least I can do. Typically I'll also respond if their remark was in the form of an actual dialogue.

I very rarely even think about it. I have been on discussion/forum web sites since long before I joined RP and none of them have ever had upvote or downvote buttons so when it comes to taking part in these, unless it is something that really grabs my attention I don't usually even think about the existence of those buttons. I convey what I want to get across through my post. Nothing against any members who make great posts themselves, I'm just not used to it. Even after having been here for a couple of years now.
