Why do Vets feel they are not worthy of a discount?

Let me add some context. The reason I ask this is because every member of our armed forces is vital to helping to further the mission of the respected branches. Every member keeps our forces on task and ensures that the freedoms that the American people enjoy are not lost.

With that I am grateful to all our vets for serving this great nation. Take advantage of your well deserved discounts and don't ever feel you aren't worthy of that discount as you are worthy!

Personally, I’ve always just been a “stay under the radar” kinda guy.
That being said, I do encourage all
my Joes to seek their discounts as they wish.

Most (if not all vets) will tell you that we didn't/don't do what we did/do for discounts. Are they nice? Sure. I personally don't actively seek them out. If offered, I will accept. But I will never actively seek them out.

I don't think anyone feels they aren't worthy.
I'm not a vet yet - but I don't go seeking any military discounts. If I see one posted, I'll use it. If it's not posted, I don't ask. If they ask me if I'm military I say yes. But I don't seek it and most people I know who are active or vets don't seek it out.

I look at it as - we aren't special. Some may disagree but I chose this path. No one made me. I knew what I was getting into. I think there are jobs that do more than I have done - like teachers or other educators, firefighters, EMTs, etc.

I’ll take it if offered, but when Home Depot says they want a copy of my DD214 I think not. The “veteran” designator on my driver’s license should be more than adequate.

It's not that we feel we are unworthy. It's just none of us did what we did for discounts. I will happily accept one if offered, and be grateful, but I won't ask for one. That is not to diminish anyone else's desire to do so. That's just me.

Thomas Applegate I think that some veterans may not ask for discounts for various reasons, but it is not that they feel not worthy of a discount. Many of us joined to serve our country with no thought about a discount down the road. I take advantage of veteran, senior citizen, AARP and any other discounts that are offered, along with online or printed coupons. I am appreciative of all discounts that I receive and go to businesses that do not offer a discount. Taking advantage of coupons and discounts is good money management.

I made an agreement with the government to serve. The government has lived up to that agreement. My life was much bigger than it would have been had I not served. The only thing America owes me is to live up to that agreement.

You may not want to hear this, but veteran discounts are a marketing tool. The companies that offer them want repeat customers. But what they lose by discounting to veteran's they believe they make up by more business from veterans and by charging non-veterans more.

I don't go anywhere looking for a discount or just because they give military discounts. If they offer me the discount I won't turn it down. I'm not that fond of shopping at the big box store, so when shopping at local businesses I would feel out of place asking for a discount as they are working to feed and support they families same as I am.
