Why do you like or dislike talk radio?

Are you a fan of talk radio? Any particular genre? Politics? Sports? Religion? Humor? Or would you rather listen to something else? Have you ever phoned in to a talk radio show to voice your opinion? What's your favorite talk radio show? What show or host really annoys you?

I actually listen to the Adam Carolla podcast every day. Not exactly "talk radio" but similar.

I enjoy it because it's non-formatted, has special guests, is relatively free form, and if he feels like ranting he does. Politics, sports, religion, humor, etc come up. The guests are from all walks of life, and it keys my curiosity, which lets me explore new concepts, much like my friends here at RP. In essence, there is no real agenda.

I despise political talk radio. Before I retired I had a very long commute I listened to crap that I learned to hate. The sports talk radio was bearable.

I enjoy listening to NPR on the way to PT Aand the way home at night. Sometimes they have a show on that is about some sort of science and I learn something....and sometimes it is politics and I get a good laugh out of the liberals.

Love NPR News. The depth of coverage they provide is unmatched in audio/visual media news. I also like the interviews on Radio Times by Marty Moss-Coane. She prepares very well for each interview, asking pointed questions of her guests and having productive, informative conversations. Fresh Air with Terry Gross is another good interview show. Terry, like Marty, gets personal with her guests and you walk away from the show knowing more about the person.

I never understood it myself. Listening to people express their opinion on subjects that range from World politics to a rubber duck. The guys like Howard Stern are not funny to me. The Political guys like Limbaugh are way to opinionated, and the sports guys, if they were just announcing highlights and scores, that would be awesome. But these guys get into why a pitchers 98 MPH fast ball went 97 MPH for one throw, I'm not that big into sports.

I miss morning radio music. I can't find it anymore so I have to plug in the phone.

yes I am....I'm somewhat older, and used to drive trucks over the country with over 2.5 million safe miles. I think the reason I like it, cuz it like putting someone else in the cab with you. Going down I-70 or I-80 get kinda bored and lonely.
I can't really listen to this kiddie country or wiggy wiggy wiggy music....so unmanly...plus I like to get a different point of view than My own.

CH (MAJ) William Beaver, I rarely listen to talk radio shows while driving. I'll almost always opt for music, whether it's an oldies station or classical music. Most of the talk shows just take my blood pressure up, they (whoever they is) don't know much more about the subject than me, and I figure, "Who needs it?!" SGT Jeremiah B.

CH (MAJ) William Beaver, I use to listen to car talk, and now I listen to Howard Stern on my satellite radio when I need a break from the news channels. I have never called in either. Road trips go a little bit better with an interesting topic being discussed.

I get ready for work every morning listening to Mike and Mike!! lol.

I used to listen to politics, but the just make me mad now. :)

Howard Stern make me laugh unstoppable- the callers make me question humanity. really?! why do people put all their business out there?! Oh well, I get a chuckle out of it.

I used to listen to talk radio before I retired. I spent a lot of time in the car traveling between clients and it was like having someone in the car to talk with (and I talked back even when they couldn't hear me). In the early days of KABC Talk Radio in Southern California, they had a nice mix of light early morning news, left/right/middle commentators, a psychologist who took questions from listeners, and sports talk. It got boring when it went to almost full-time political talk.

Now that I'm retired, I listen/view PJTV.com every day. It's a mix of political and other topics provided by a stable of very good hosts. The money I've saved by stopping newspaper delivery (print media news is deplorable since it became all ideological propaganda) pays for my PJTV subscription.

I stay away from it mostly because the participants are unprofessional, talking over each other all the time. You have to go to the BBC to get decent discussions.

I was walking down the street one day and someone was sitting in their car listening to talk radio. I couldn't tell who it was or what they were saying. All I could hear was tone of voice. The voice dripped with derision and outrage. At that moment, I realized that if THIS is what we consume on a regular basis, it's going to bleed into everything we do and how we interact with each other.

Ever since then, I've felt we'd probably be better off if we lined most of these infotainer, "personality" types up against a wall and executed the lot of them.

I only like paranormal Art Bell talk radio I just find it very entertaining
