Because Space and space travel is fancinating, as well as the science and engineering that are needed to get something from the earth to another planet/moon in one piece(and in some cases, bring it back safely).
It's probably why I ended up becoming a huge fan 0f Kerbal Space Program(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerbal_Space_Program), which is probably as close to actual rocket science most of us will ever get.

I love Rocket Science.
I will never forget Sally Ride, and the other Astronauts; who died in the Space Shuttle- right after it was launched. And we watched it happen; on television.(!)
I remember the first Astronaut on the moon saying: "One small step for man; one huge leap for mankind." (I could be wrong; but he said something to that effect.)
Our family has a friend who IS a Rocket Scientist!!?! :)
