Why does it seem like American soil is becoming alarmingly more dangerous for servicemembers?

We need to stop treating America like its any safer then being anywhere else. I don't advertise my service, I don't wear my uniform in public. When I leave my house, I'm carrying a firearm and a knife. When I leave the local town I have a rifle with me.
In the Case of Staff Sergeant Select Stone (can't believe I just typed that) he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Their are parts of town you don't go into, when you violate that you get into trouble. He is very lucky to be alive. I don't think he was targeted.

A1C Stone looks like he was somewhere he ought not be, and was an active player in that fracas. He should have had a wingman, too.
I don't think he was targeted for being military. Looks like a typical late-night gong show that happens near closing time pretty much everywhere.
I'm sure his Chain-of-Command will have input for him when he recovers.
Thankfully, it looks like he will be OK.

Because you have a President that is anti military and anti police creating a dangerous environment.

There are a million "sayings" that answer this question. speed of the leader, speed of the gang, lead by example, shit flows down hill. we have a president who exudes his extreme "prejudice by omission" everyday in every thing he doesn't say, it actually speaks volumes on what he thinks of peoples color, cops and GI's and Vets. his lack of oral conviction actually signals it is OK to riot. get rid of bad cops, just go ahead and do whatever cause its really not your fault.

American soil has been unsafe for servicemembers for a long time. In the sixties and seventies we were warned to not wear our uniforms off base and having military decals on your car was begging to have in vandalized in many places. Many veterans avoided telling anyone that they had been in the military. After 9-11 were suddenly became popular for awhile but now it is reverting back.

Sp4 Byron Skinner,
Actually the treatment of US military now is pretty good, there are so few incidents that the actually make the national news. I true story, December 1966, I was at Letterman Med. Ctr. in San Francisco, amputee K Ward. I was given a 6 hour pass to just get off the ward and wonder around a bit in San Francisco. I walked over To Fisherman's Wraf, a tourist destination. Had dinner at Grotto #9, I was in uniform, Army Reg, for patients in the hospital. I started walking back to Letterman and was accosted by if I recall a mixed gender group of four of five college students types, who were obviously anti war and I guess they thought the war was may fault, after getting knocked down, kicked in the head I had a head wound that was still bandaged. lost left eye and cracked skull, the usual head wound, and ribs a few times, none broke but bruised, and a cup of soft drink dumped on me I guess that satisfied their anti war feelings and they left me laying on the side walk. People walked around me and one even kicked me again. I finally stood up a bit sore and blood on my uniform. No cab would pick me up I was to messy. I walked back to Letterman.
The good old days brothers and sisters.

CSM Charles Hayden Passed 7/29/2025
SPC Byron Skinner I am sorry for your treatment by those idiots!
I also feel sorry for those lousy stinking draft dodgers, who after fleeing to Canada to escape being drafted, were allowed to return to CONUS and pardoned by POTUS Carter! The current POTUS is in a race w/ Carter for "worst president of my lifetime"!

Kinda weird what is going on with these guys. One stabbed, the other, his college was that of OK that was just involved in the mass shootings. This isn't a coincidence. SPC Bruce Nichols

Sp4 Byron Skinner. The civilian environment rite not is all cuddly, touchie feely, we love the military. Because of a very few unrelated incidents such as Airman Stone getting into a bar fight some are trying to connect the event with his heroic actions in France. There is no connection. In general the treatment of American service personal by the general public is very positive. You want to learn about hate and hostility look at 1964-1969, the picture yourself in attending college as a disabled Vietnam Veteran. The bitching about the VA, yea it could use some improving but a lot of it is because veterans are applying for benefits the haven't earned or the don't know how to follow instructions. The healthcare system is clogged up with over 65 Veterans with not service connected problems but have discovered that they can get free drugs from the VA, Medicare Don't offer that and a small pension because through some freak of nature they have managed to celebrate their 65th. birthday. I'm not of the conservative though that these freeloaders should be kicked out of the VA, but I think they could be better served in civilian medical facilities then at the VA and it free up space for the Wounded Combat Veterans that need a life time of treatment. So knock off the whining and bitching, you have it as good as its going to be right now, the VA after the wars stop will become just another budget issue and then you see the "Real VA", the Bush (43) administration for eight budgets skimmed form a billion to one.six bill out of VA healthcare in every one of those eight budgets, and then how Americans really feel about their military especially those who served in combat.

Is there any data at all that suggests that US soil is in fact becoming "alarmingly" more dangerous to military personnel? I haven't seen anything on that, and the quoted article doesn't seem to suggest the attack was anything other than a typical barfight.
