L is for Levant, which is a region that includes Syria but other countries as well. I'm not sure why he prefers that term.

It Is his way of showing his respect for them by putting them on pedestal by calling the by their "Proper" name......How low can you go? guess it's still a work in progress!

I believe either is more or less acceptable. ISIL = Islamic State in the Levant while ISIS = Islamic State in Iraq & Syria. If not mistaken, the Levant is a larger area than just Iraq & Syria, to encompass a fair portion of the entire Middle east.

ISIS gives them too much credit. They have no right to Iraq or Syria. Nor do they have the right to call what they have created an Islamic state.

Pretty simple to answer. ISIL includes Israel, and we all know his dislike of that nation. Therefore, he includes them in the list of nations that sponsor terrorism.

There is more than one way to say the same thing - especially when referring to the acronym in different languages. They are also known as "daesh" in Arabic. Secretary of State Kerry often refers to them as this in his speeches.

ISIL includes Israel and Palestine where as ISIS is specific for Iraq and Syria.

Well if we use the name they wanted when they established their caliphate in 2014 we would be legitimizing them as a sovereign state. But frankly, they have had as many mergers, acquisitions, sell-offs and abandonments as Chrysler so I don't know what or who they are anymore.

ISIS is what they prefer and gives them more Legitimacy. ISIL is almost as good but missing a few of the Connotations in the Native Language. I Like Daesh their Original Name but one they have forsaken and swear to kill anyone who uses because it implies "Booted" Heavy Handedness and runs contrary to their Current Propaganda Effort.
