Why does the VA only help when you are homeless and not before?

Lost me there, how can you help before being homeless? That would imply they had a place to live and became homeless. Government doesn't work that way, you must be homeless before they will act.

While I am sure there are situations where a Veteran is left out in the cold, fundamentally I would have to disagree. The VA offers many programs to Veterans, unfortunatley it is challenging ensuring that Veterans are aware of what they offer. If Veterans do not regiser we cannot hold anyone else accountable for there inaction.

I think it has more to do with area and work load than anything else. The VA here in Tucson, is overloaded and has difficulty assisting everyone. Luckily, there is the Red Cross and the have a program for homeless or may become homeless. The program is SSVF (Support Services for Veteran Families), they helped me tremendously.

That is a good question to ask the VA!
