Why is Japan doing so well at containing covid-19 if public health measures don't work?

I've been hearing alot lately that vaccines, masks and other measures don't work. Let me ask how is Japan doing so well against the pandemic then? The island nation has a little over 125 million people, yet only has 1.650 million cases confirmed to date since this pandemic began. They only have a 16,894 confirmed deaths year to date yet so condensely populated on the island. We on the other hand have over 40 million confirmed cases year to date. We have over 600,000 deaths year to date. We have over 60% of out population partially vaccinated where as Japan has less than 25%. We are still averaging 100,000 plus cases daily. They on the hand average less than 20k. When will we stop going after each other an act in good faith to each other?

LTC Lance Headrick - Like any vaccination, it greatly reduces the chance of getting, and therefore spreading the virus.
Kinda like how driving the speed limit and obeying traffic laws greatly reduces the chance of collision.

SGM (Join to see) I think if you are 50 or over you should get it...no question. If you are 18-40 the chance of getting and dying from COVID is very low...look at the CDC website, after all it is what the statistic show. 0-18 have a statistical chance of 0 to get and die from COVID barring a serious comorbidity...again the CDC statistics say it not me.
Speed Limits do not have the totality in affect that you are alluding to...it is the varying speeds of travellers that causes the problem (1 driver going 65 and the other going 40mph....large closing speeds).
Many studies (i have the citations if you would like) suggest that speed limits have little to do with the numbers of accidents, but higher speed limits certainly mean more deaths. Statistics often mean exactly what the people paying for them want them to say. Just a thought.

I think you are misunderstanding the purpose of a vax.
Yes, an 18-40 yr old is less likely to be hospitalized by COVID, but the odds of contracting COVID between 18 and 40 are the same as anyone else, which means the chances of spreading COVID are the same as anyone else.
The purpose of the vax is to reduce the chance of getting COVID, AND reduce the chance that you will infect others with COVID. I think the problem here is that you are skipping that second part.

For many years, a lot of Japanese wore masks because the polution in their major cities and industrial areas was very bad. I doubt very much if that has anything to do with their limited Covid problems.
However, the Japanese culture demands a higher sense of "honor," especiially among medical professionals. That said, it stands to reason that they are reporting ONLY cases of Covid, and ONLY a death rate DIRECTLY caused by Covid and not underlying conditions (COPD, cancer or other compromised immune systems). The U.S. on the other hand has counted even terminally ill patients, who just happen to test positive for Covid, and count them as Covid deaths when they die. The worse the Covid numbers, the more federal monies hospitals get, so even the most subjective deaths, even when not DIRECTLY linked to death, are counted as Covid deaths.
Another potential factor is Japan is VERY restrictive on immigration into their country. They don't have 100's of thousands of refugees or illegal aliens entering theri country. The U.S. not only has an issue with such high immigration (asylum, illegals, refugess) being allowed in, EVEN when they are positive for Covid, and most are not even tested beyond checking ofr coughs, fevers, etc. If you enter Japan, your documents BETTER prove you're entering LEGALLY ... or you are denied entry and in some cases, jailed.

The US counts pre-existing condition deaths due to COVID as well because the casualties are because of COVID i.e with medication and therapeutics every diagnosis you have stated was “MANAGED” giving the person more time according to Science. Now add the pre-existing condition with COVID the persons immune capacity diminishes. So essentially, yes a COIVD death!!!!!!

Their culture does not include public kissing, hugging, or even standing close talking. Husbands and wives do not cuddle in public. It isn't a concious thing, simply the way things have always been. Many asian cultures are that way.

It was on the northeast corner of Broad and Logan Opposite the Bell Atlantic building on the Northwest corner. Only New Saigon I know is Westminster California. I lived in San Francisco for ten years. The neighborhood was 90% Chinese, 90% of those spoke Cantonese. More than spoke English. There were Koreans, Vietnamese, Thais, etc etc but little, if and of the behavior you described

I know where you're talking about now, but little Saigon is Washington Ave between streets 5-7th. It's where alot of Vietnamese an Khmer businesses are now. Two Asian groceries stores ect.

SSG Tilton. I was stationed in Japan for two years, and I can attest to how close Japanese people can get. All you have to do is ride one of their commuter trains.
