Depends on your interest. RP is a business and they go with what the members are interested in. Makes good business sense. It’s easy to avoid the topics you aren’t interested in. Choose the ones you like and all is good. One major difference is we have administers that do a commendable job keeping us from becoming Facebook or other more disreputable social media outlets.

We are not only service members and veterans but also parents and children, citizens, taxpayers, artists, craftsmen, tradesmen, professionals, teachers, and more. We not only defend/defended this great nation but also live in it. Our interests and concerns are as varied as any civilian and more. We are also warriors and students of the art of war. That is why RallyPoint offers tags/categories so that we can wade through each others comments and responses ferreting out those that we want to focus on. Who then is so superior that they would impose their values and interests on the rest of us.

Quite frankly, 1SG, this is probably the safest place to have these discussions with people you don't agree with. As Vets and servicemembers, we have unique perspectives into government and politics. We have many tools at our disposal to lead, train, and mentor, but RallyPoint is a unique social platform that would be difficult to maintain elsewhere.

1SG, I agree with your original statement- a portal serving as a virtual mentor for those serving in the military. I jump on anything logistic or NTC related own this forum. I'd welcome more comments from junior officers and NCOs but I just don't get them in my feed. I could definitely discuss lessons learned with a Med Company in a BSB and professional development of 70Hs.

In today’s highly charged divisive political climate it’s not surprising to see political posts on RP. It’s a topic of concern for many folks. However, I also see many military specific posts every day. The great thing about RP is that you can pick and choose what you want to follow and participate in.

There is no other social media site like RP out there. I will take the good with the bad and I am thankful for the wisdom and insight of the folks on this site. While there are a few disrespectful knuckle heads on RP, they usually don’t last too long.

Thanks has been going on for years. Some people just want a military version of FB and this fills the gap. You will have to filter out that pretty much by just skipping it. By the way I see you are now in 2nd BCT. I just hit Bragg too. I am in 3rd BCT

I believe this site has a lot to offer both active and retired veterans. I can't think of a better start to my day than a little motivation from COL Mikel Burroughs, a little prayer from SMSgt Minister Gerald A. "Doc" Thomas and some inspiration from SPC Margaret Higgins. Yes, politics can be heated--been that way for over 200 years but there is insightful, relevant content on this site if you're looking for it. But, I suspect you know that and are just asking everyone to tone it down...after all, we are all brothers and sister in Arms. I am fortunate I guess, my mouse usually opens content I click on.

I totally agree with this and feel that this site was made for service members and should consist of discussion related to the military in some way shape or form. I think this page can be a great tool for mentorship and building yourself as a leader. You can ask for advice on specific issues you are running into or just post something that you need to vent. I think that we do need to post things going on out in the world as current event in order to emphasize the importance and relevance in the military. Some of these things affect us indirectly or directly towards ourselves and our soldiers as well.

Do you think that it's not appropriate for military members, past, present and future, to learn from current events, self help, etc?

I post alot about personal finances and how the military shaped me to be a kick ass civilian employee. I was a TERRIBLE servicemember. I hated it. I was a young, dumb, hothead who had 20/20 hindsight. Would I have do things different in my military service if I knew then what i know now? Absolutely. Sometimes, sharing real world life events that aren't seemingly related to the military is exactly what a military member needs in order to better themselves.

Example. I had never heard of Dave Ramsey until I was 5+ years out of the service.

If I had known who he was, what he stood for, how he's helped people all over the country/world get a handle on their personal finances, I MIGHT have been a better servicemember. I sure would have handled my money differently, and i probably would have looked at my career differently, too.

So is it bad for me to share who he is and how he's helped me with other service members? I mean, it's not directly military related, but here's a thought: If your servicemembers personal affairs are in order, they are better servicemembers.

Don't be such a grumpy butt. If the topic isn't military related and you don't want to read it, just keep scrolling.
