I served almost 6 years in the Marines and held one mos, why is that when I transferred to the AF, my skill level is like I’m a new troop that just graduated tech school?

You are a giant question mark walking through the door to them. They have no idea about your work history, training, knowledge or experience and because you are from a different branch they have no way of knowing. If you had a list of Air Force schools under your belt they could relate because it is something they are familiar with. Don't take it personal. Just do the job and show them you know what you are talking about. Everything else will shake out in the process.

If things haven't changed from my time in uniform.... Your skill level is based on OJT certifications, completion of CDC's (if any), and may even have minimum rank requirement. For example, in my own 1N5X1 AFSC, I couldn't upgrade from 1N551 to 1N571 until I was promoted from SRA to SSgt and couldn't get 1N591 until MSgt.

Makes sense, guess they should have enlisted me as an E4 then instead of an E5

Your profile still reflects Marine service vs AF so I can't determine how long you've been a member of the AF. Typically, it takes at least one year to upgrade from a "3" apprentice to a "5" journeyman skill level regardless of TIS/TIG. I'm sure things have changed somewhat from my time. Your Orderly Room or MPF should be able to answer your questions for you.

Did your Marine Corp MOS translate to your AF AFSC. Most of the Services, in my experience, treat prior service enlistees about the same as they do AIT grads until they see different.

Yeah it did, so no tech school for me and I got to keep my rank

Sgt Rosie Juko - The Army didn't usually make 0300's and 1371's retrain either and I served with a number of former Marines in those MOS's. Still, everyone waits to see how they perform and if they can pick up the differences in the Services. If you are fairly new in this position, give it some time. Work hard, show you know your stuff and everyone should come around.
Hey, I was a Mustang, spent 2 1/2 years in an Infantry Platoon before going to OCS. Everyone still treated me the same as some dumbass out of ROTC until I proved I knew my way around.
