Arms dealing will go on and on its a billion dollar business involving government agencies across the world. I stand very moderate on this issue. I own a gun but I'd give it up in moment if that would prevent violence. But it won't. Because people with bad intentions still have guns and they don't get them because average citizens can buy them. They get them because arms are filtered across our boarders and sold to criminals illegally...and it can't be to hard to find the who and where. So let's make the issue not about gun control but about Arms dealing...how are these guns getting into into our country, our city? How are urban teenagers accessing AK-47's? Guns and urban violence have allot more to do with the failed "War on Drugs" than it does with the 2nd Amendment right. but It will keep being brought up and pushed out there by the media so we don't focus on the real problem. The group decides. When people act from a hive mind they likely elevate the psychopath out of fear and those attributes become the dominant governing body of the tribe. When people rise to oppose those beliefs or morals they are marginalized. People intrinsically know the truth but out fear they conform. Theres a great documentary called The Science of Evil that explores how easily the human mind conforms to except or even carry out amoral acts. An amazing mentor once told me, that's what happens when you give power to powerless people. Don't act out fear, when we act out of love it becomes a very different world. Great topic! Don't get me wrong; I don't think Congress needs to pass any law preventing an American from slinging an M-4 over their shoulder to go to Wal-Mart...but common sense should be a "culture" we embrace, not resist. The "grabbers" want to prove a point; that we've "moved beyond" a society of independent individuals and into a controlled "community". Nothing proves them more incorrect than a free, armed American telling all the world that they will stand their ground. On the other side, there are individuals who are frustrated, angry and feeling a need to prove their own point-That there's a line they are willing to stand behind should society try to cross. In my humble opinion, both are creating a dangerous environment for the everyday American who responsibly exercises their rights, and those who feel that a "safe" environment is one where lethal weapons aren't needed on a daily basis.

If I'm "carrying", you won't know it. I don't always carry because there are still a FEW places I feel safe without a weapon-I optimistically hope this remains the case. I fear that if I allowed myself to get into the mindset I had in a true combat zone, it's a real possibility that I'll find myself in "combat" sooner or later. I don't feel the need to wear my power drill to Church just to prove I know how to use it. If there is any real benefit to my training/experience...I don't want the "bad guy" to know it until it's too late for him to prepare to counter. I do respect the fact that I no longer actively serve in an armed profession...and accept the fact that law enforcement officers have training/standards I do not have. I also realize that in that one-in-a-million, unwanted, unpredictable circumstance where I need a weapon...they will be too far away.

The 2nd Amendment clearly speaks to the private citizen's RIGHT to defend themselves...and their nation if required. It wasn't designed as "permission" for official forces because that goes without saying. It's not "antiquated" because we're at higher risk now, more than ever. It does not imply "limits" on which weapons can be owned...a weapon is a weapon. That said, there's a sense that our Founding Fathers gave the average citizen a great amount of trust and respect...and that should be lived up to. It will always be easier to target guns than it will be to admit we have a failed mental health system or there are anomalies where bad people get guns and do bad things. Long jail sentences, in jails which are not inhumane, but are not the lap of luxury, where daily physical labor is required, and where treatment is also mandatory with one hour of educational television should be the norm. It is not. Make a jail or prison uncomfortable and make people work while incarcerated. We need roads built and maintained, food needs to be grown, buildings need maintenance, rocks need to be broken, and sand bags need to be filled. Guess what, less people will want to go to jail.

We need prosecutors who prosecute violent criminals with extreme prejudice.
