CPO Justin Smith 74831

I served just less than 18 years, forced to retire (medically). I was a member of both the Wounded Warrior regiment as well as Safe Harbor. (How purple.)

I suspect it is a bug in the code; my dates of service don't equal 20 years.

Nonetheless, I think this is an issue that RP's coders need to fix. There are thousands of men and women who have returned from combat with an injury that forced them to retire.

In no way denigrating the service or commitment of veterans who did not retire, I strongly feel that disallowing that status to servicemen and servicewomen reduces their commitment and sacrifice. Veterans who elected not to serve until statutory retirement did so of their own volition, or bad luck. Medical retirees largely had no intention of leaving the service when forced otherwise to do so. I, myself, would have stayed until 30.3

Please comment your thoughts. Increase the visibility.

Cheers, brothers and sisters.
Why "Veteran" status when I selected "Retired"? 2014-03-12T22:06:33-04:00 CPO Justin Smith 74831

I served just less than 18 years, forced to retire (medically). That makes you a veteran. Where you served on active duty and when or where makes no difference on being a veteran. being depoloyed mean you were sent outside CONUS it could be to a declared hostile fire zone or some other place.
