Why would my 1SG make us take a PT test 30 days after the record?

I think I am more curious than annoyed about the situation. My unit just took a record 30 days ago. I passed with a 258 and passed tape 4% under my max. I am not worried that I would fail, that is not an option, but what would make Top make such an annoying decision. We recently cased our company's color and have been placed under a different one? Would our records still count?

Your records should be fine. The issue could be with an impropriety in the first APFT. Course not quite two miles or not trusting the NCOs who conducted it. Or your unit might be falling into this we need to do it every month mindset that seems to be going around.

You passed once you'll pass again. I have seen a lot of "panic posts" about PFTS lately. A PFT is really nothing more than just another PFT session. To be honest I used to like having to do a PFT, because it was a break from the normal runs.

There are a TON of reasons for doing this. First off, understand that you, as a Soldier, are required to be able to pass the APFT at all times. Commanders can dictate a diagnostic APFT at ANY TIME if it is their prerogative. If they feel that members of the unit are not taking personal physical readiness seriously, be it the individual Soldiers or the NCOs leading PT, they can use an APFT as a tool to fix that. Also remember that DA 4187's can bar you from re-enlistment for as little as the Commander's say, and right now the small unit leaders are having to make some pretty hard decisions about who to keep and who to cut loose. A failed APFT, even a diagnostic one, can make a decision a lot easier when looking at a number of Soldiers who all perform their MOS duties equally.

You said your 1SG is the one making you do this. I can totally see that, because training is NCO business, but I guarantee you that your Commander backs your 1SG. It's the APFT, it's LITERALLY a requirement.

They're still valid scores, but it sounds like one of two things: Start new unit off with a PT test to meet new Command's guidance; or your 1SG is just a asshole. More likely than not, it 's the former and not the latter.

SGT Private RallyPoint Member I am not going to quote regulations since that was already done, but look at it from this point of view...an APFT should be your easiest pt session of that week, go out there, use it as your workout for that day, drink water and move on with the rest of your day.

If I were to venture a guess, it is to establish an APFT record for the newly-formed unit.
It seems like a small matter, but the powers that be demand that their metrics look good.
To answer you question, your records individually are still good, but as a UIC, it would show that there are no records under the unit filter.

As stated below, ask through your COC. When I took over as 1SG I ended up redoing the record APFT due to certain SPECIAL folks not following regulations and playing buddy games. As I wasn't there and my Commander didn't trust the results from the last record APFT we did another one, low and behold, a number of folks that were scoring really high either failed or didn't come close to the original scores. Between that and a practice of allowing off schedule APFTs as a work around you tend to track your get overs really easy. Take the APPT and try to score higher, all Soldiers should show gradual improvement or the PT program needs to be redone.

If the APFT is announced as a record APFT 30 days after a previous record APFT, that clearly falls outside what AR 350-1 authorizes. If the APFT isn't a record APFT, well, no issue.

That can only be answered by one persona, and unless he is a member here and reading this post, NO ONE here can answer. Knock on the door, wait to be called in, ask.... then be surprised when get the specific answer to your question and the 1SG gets to feel good about a SM in his unit striving to learn the "why" something is done, not just do it..so they can become a better leader.

BTW, id bet the PSG or 1SG would love to answer your question about the records as well. though do 30 sec of research first, come up with what you think is the answer, cite page and para from the AR and ask them if that is correct//

First and foremost... ask! As a promotable specialist, you should be inquiring your leadership on their particular technique, unit training plans, and troop leading procedures. You may find a simple explanation.
For yourself, you will soon join the ranks of the NCO Corps yourself, personal and professional development is important to your growth as a leader and Soldier. A PT test should never be avoided or feared. You should always maintain your fitness level and be ready to take a Record APFT, that is the professionalism and self-discipline required of today's leaders. Be resilient and adaptive to all situations. Lead by example, even at your level.
Do not complain, seek guidance and answers. Always remain the consummate professional, strengthen your character by seeking mentorship from your leaders. If you happen to find yourself in a situation in which the answers is "because I said so", remain the quiet professional and take it as lesson learned. Don't become the leader who was not engaged in Soldier development, know that there are good leaders out there who are engaged, lead by example, answers questions with well thought out processes and relevant professional development in mind.

SGT Private RallyPoint Member I've actually asked to have a diag APFT weeks before my record one, I would love to have this practice implemented in my Company. I've always thought that a bi-annual APFT is way too few, if it was on me, we would take it Quarterly, just like Weapons Services, let's say a"Fitness PMCS".

Your record PT will still count, your First Sergeant may be directed to give another PT test from the Commander. Or he/she may just want to do a diagnostic PT test for training reasons (unlikely). A diagnostic can be given more frequently to gauge the performance of troops. But, yes the PT for record should transfer to the new uint designation. this sounds like an officer directed PT test because of all the "check the block" bench marks that must be met with a new unit or organization.

By regularly performing the PFT, say every four weeks, you can identify someone who may be headed for trouble when it is for the record. Small corrections early, beat the heck out of big corrections later. I don't know you 1SG but I would guess that the reason was troop welfare.

APFT should be the easiest PT session you have, if not someone isn't training you right. The onus of the work is on the leadership believe me, Training schedules, command briefings, medical, paperwork, leadership in right positions, getting in early, location, chow, and on and on. Believe me it isn't for the fun of it. You can't just throw in an APFT exam without some work.
