Why would someone tell me that I’m lucky that I’m not going to be under 2ID once I get to Korea?

Probably because some folks were bitter over their time under the 2ID for whatever reasons they have to be bitter. Each posting and unit is what you make it. If you walk in thinking it's gonna suck...then it will suck.

2ND I.D. is every thing north of camp Casey.
The farther north you are the more it sucks. Just the fact. I am told things have become better.
The fact is the father South you are the more thing there are to do. Time to take class's.
Play tourist. Keora has some great thing to do. M.W.R. has trips to Japan, They have a Island that has an Amusment park. The list goes on.
The First thing that you must do is treat the Keren people with respect. To many people go there thinking that they should speak English, A great deal of them do. But do not expect it.
The second thing. DO NOT TRUST THE CAB DRIVER'S. Most of them are o.k. ,But some are just scume.
Third if you see the Koren police with a bunch of Bambo stick's heding towards a group of people get away as fast possible. If you get cought up in them you WILL get yor ass beat and taken to jail.
All so do not let other people that do not want to be there at make it hard for you. It is almost like any other duty station. GOOD PEOPLE BAD PEOPLE. One mor thing ther is a program that if you bring a Korean child that has been Adapted, Back with you on your mid Tour leave it get paid for.
not sure of the details. I know they have it, Ihave known a few peoplr that did it.
The police are not bad there, That is just there way of handling Protester's
Try to learn some of there languge it will get you a long way.

I’m currently with the 2nd ID they just have a lot of policies and rules. In my unit we have to FaceTime our platoon SGT every night on the weekends by 2330 to make sure we are in our barracks room. After 1700 we are required to have battle buddy’s if we are going any where other than the gym. So as you can see it gets kinda silly.

Love Korea went with my with any kids if your going alone it is harder to get around because you won't have a car and he to rely on public transportation... You are lucky your going to 2ID because that unit does the most as far as training yes they do have a lot of rules but it's because they're the biggest unit in Korea, if you are going to camp Carroll like it says you won't have to my rules because you'll be down south near Busan and it's easy more relaxed down there I.E curfew isn't that much as of a priority down there because soliders don't get in trouble down there a lot... Please go explore that year you are there it probably the most down time youll see in your army career lol and if you do go with family I encourage you put a COT or reenlist to stay in Korea lol I'm in bliss right now and I just came back from Korea and as soon my window opens up I'm going back to Korea asap
