College is always a plus. There are only a few authorized instances that a complete the record is valid. If it is, then it cannot hurt. If you have all of the other requisite requirements met and are doing a great job in all areas then you stand a good chance. In my experience best thing to do in determining your chances is to be honest in your personal assessment. Truthfully rate yourself against your peers, if you are at the top of the heap, and your records reflect you stand a good chance. Thank you for your service. These are people so impressive that when they get that rank everybody says, of course they are they rank. It’s obvious to all they should have gotten it. They are impressive and are the ideal Soldiers. They never aim for minimums and show everybody else how to do their jobs. They show up early and stay late helping others. They do all of these things everyday too. When you do these you will easily become an honored E8 or 9. If your sr rarer is going to write one then they really need to be saying strong stuff. Otherwise they are just wasting time. Good luck. It gives a pretty good idea of what they are looking for.
Also, as a rule of thumb, try to get at least one military education school every two years. It shows your wanting to better the Army and yourself. Notice I said the Army first then yourself. 1SG Private RallyPoint Member Wed, 28 Mar 2018 00:07:12 -0400 2018-03-28T00:07:12-04:00 Response by MSG Private RallyPoint Member made Mar 28 at 2018 12:20 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/will-having-a-complete-the-record-ncoer-and-a-associates-degree-help-my-chances-for-e8?n=3489750&urlhash=3489750

Short answer? Yes. But like others mentioned, improve yourself through professional and civilian education. Also work on filling the total soldier mold by leading by example. Watch your weight, look like a soldier, do well with the APFT, be a team player, build those who work for you up, show up to work early with a smile, leave work late with a smile, and if the vacancies are available, you may be promoted.
Take my response however you like though. I'm still a SFC like you but the advice I provide is the way I operate on a daily basis. Best of luck to you this board, by the way. Be positive no matter the outcome! However, I recommend taking a look at your career map to check what makes you competitive or qualified for E8. Better yet, check out DA PAM 600-25. While its isn't a cookie cutter solution to promotion, it's the best guide we have.
