I was eating food my friend bought me and I'm assuming they left bone chips in it because I bit down and this hard piece of bone cracked my filling in my tooth. I ship out Tuesday so my question is would it be best to fix the filling in my tooth Monday or do they fix fillings during reception? If I fix it Monday does that affect my drug test etc at reception? I hears novocaine carries traces of cocaine so would the best thing be to wait instead?

Thanks!!!! Will having dental work done before shipping off to basic training affect my bloodwork? 2019-02-24T15:58:13-05:00 Private RallyPoint Member 4397559

Hey All,

I have a few questions. Welcome to the Army.

they're most likely NOT going to fix it during BCT.
I'm my anecdotal experience, we didn't have any recruits get fillings or anything until AIT. You have a much higher chance that they'll fix your teeth then. It may be best to not risk potentially failing a UA.

Consider that you'll most likely have 2.5mo of no dental work. I'm not sure how affective they are at fillings.
If you have your own dentist that can do it for cheap then go for it.
If not, let the Army take care of you, it's free! And no, Novocaine or lidocaine are not going to give you a positive pee test. I can tell you for a fact that modern dental analgesics have different structures then the part of the molecule of cocaine that makes coke have the effect it does.

The more pressing issue for you and your recruiter is going to basic with a dental issue Response by 1SG Private RallyPoint Member made Feb 25 at 2019 11:08 AM 2019-02-25T11:08:31-05:00 2019-02-25T11:08:31-05:00 SFC Private RallyPoint Member 4399621

Get it fixed before leaving and no it will not mess up any drug tests.
