Will I be able to join the military after having a splenectomy when I was sixteen?

Also why would my recruiter send me to do my ears and get me ready for meps if he knows hes wasting his time as well as mine.

Wyatt Camera - You need to understand your recruiters priorities. They have monthly quotas to meet with new recruits shipping to boot camp. He isn't looking at the hurdles you are navigating. His major concern is meeting quota.

SSgt Christophe Murphy - Yep! That is about the size of it, the quota. Any willing able body is a chance to make quota and keep the brass off their back.

Wyatt Camera - I'm just telling you what the DoD Instructions are for medical/physical qualifications. Perhaps there were some that lied/omitted their history of splenectomy to the Recruiter and MEPS. Perhaps not. Perhaps some folks were granted waivers. Perhaps not. What I am telling you that the DoDI is very specific in regards to what is PDQ and what isn't. A history of splenectomy is listed as a PDQ. You could very well make it to MEPS, jot down everything, and then be PDQ once the CMO reads your documents. I'm not telling you to lie on your forms, as that would be unethical, immoral and illegal. I'm telling you that your chances of getting in are very very slim.

I am in contact with my recruiter and he's telling me to go for and I have a good chance. Just still worried man failure is hard to take do to a injury. I apperciate your input tho.

My recruiter told me to tell them nothing! He said it was there job to figure out if you had an something that was wrong with you. Of course back then they were desperate for recruits since many were joining knowing they would be going to Vietnam so things may have changed since then.
