Will I be able to ship out to basic with a pending court case?

I already swore in and now I’m currently waiting to go to bootcamp June 16th the only problem is I have a pending court case that keeps getting delayed because of the pandemic. The case isn’t serious and is going to result in community service or fines and all parties are willing to let me go then give me my punishment. Would I still be able to go since it isn’t serious?

What has your recruiter said about it? Did you disclose this information when you swore in?

You can not ship with any pending legal case regardless of the expected outcome. You must notify your recruiter and they will have to delay your ship date until after the court case and punishment has been given.

Ok, first off, get with your recruiter. I am going to assume that you told your recruiter about the case in the first place when you initially were recruited, expecting it to be resolved before now.

Talk to the judge, tell them your story and go to basic training, Marines have Boot Camp.

Not showing up because you shipped out w/o telling anyone at the prosecutor's office will turn that “nothing punishment“ into a felony capias warrant. Uncle Sam takes an exceedingly dim view of FUBARs like that.

All of the incidents I know about people missing a court date by shipping ended poorly for the recruit. If you ship with a pending court case it can result if you being sent home and the recruiter getting slammed for letting you ship.

I would not recommend it. I went to basic with a guy that did exactly that. 5 weeks in, MPs showed up at our company's CQ desk and hauled him off in handcuffs.
