I am going to meps tomorrow and then will ship off to Fort Sill and will be reclassing to a 13F but the school wont start until mid june. Will I be stuck at reception and treated as an IET soldier? Will i have to go through the process with the other trainees and stay there or will i go to the AIT school and become a holdover there? Will I be treated as an IET soldier when i ship off to fort sill as a reclass? 2020-05-25T16:54:20-04:00 SGT Private RallyPoint Member 5934401

So im am currently going AD from being a reservist. You are not considered an MOS-T because you are transferring from reserve to Active. Once you begin the transition to Active, you are not MOS-Qualified. Why would they give you any additional freedoms when you don't have an MOS? You are a PFC so you have yet to show your maturity to be left alone. There is no avoiding reception. When you get to the AIT area you’ll be treated like BCT all over. If you were MOS-Qed you’d get some privileges, but I’ve only seen it with those that were on TDY or came back in from a break of service, so they were obviously MOS-Q.

To accurately answer, have you been to an AIT prior? I can personally speak on this as I did this twice. Once in '96 when I went from Reserves to Active and reclassing from Medic to Engineer. During Reception, all of us that were reclassing or coming back in after a break or transitioning from USAR/USANG to Active...we were all separated (housed) from the IETs during Reception. Yea, we had to do some things with them, but for the most part we stayed away. We also had a lot more freedoms than them. We could go smoke if we had the time. When I got to my training company, we were given freedoms the IETs didn't have. Could go on pass during the week and weekend. Could smoke. No alcohol in the barracks but we could at the bowling alley. In 2008, I came back into service after a 5.5 year break. Again, the company gave us reclass Soldiers all kinds of freedoms the IETs couldn't have.

In your case, you will probably go thru reception and then head to the training company as a "hold over" until training starts. I say this because when I went to 12B course, I was sent to the company and was with them for about a week or so until they finished their BCT and then started AIT. IAW AR 612-201, all MOS-T soldiers are to be treated with the respect that goes along with their rank. You should be treated with the equal amount of respect as a cadre member, minus the stipulations that come with being a student. However, dont be expecting super crazy privileges. I expect that the main privileges we have will be cell phone use and freedom from constant room inspections. I believe we are the same class, man. I start mid-June as well. We should be on a 2-week quarantine prior to the class start date. My contact just arrived to Sill so if you want. I can ask him questions on your behalf. First time was in 87. I was an E5 and went to Ft. Bliss. We were housed with some ESLs (English as a Second Language) did 2 weeks. Other than 2 formations per day, our time was our own. Once class started, we were considered permanent party. Only had one formation in the morning, then go to school (6 months). Of course we had the barracks to clean and maintain, but that is normal.
I exited active duty in '90, but came back in '08 (gap in service is a whole other story).
After 18 years of not being in that army, I joined the NG because I felt the need to support the country. I went to Ft. Gordon to go to 94R school. I was able to come back in as an E5 because I had gone to PLDC. I don't have to do any Warrior Transition Corse either (I guess I got lucky).
When I got to Ft Gordon, I was placed with other MOSTs (Mos-trained) Personnel. Again, we had barracks to maintain, 2 formations (am for PT, pm) per day. Other than that, we were just the same as permanent party. Even the E3s that were reclassing were treated as permanent party.

I hope this helps.
One more thing, since you are going to be reclassing, it is expected that you will do well in school and you must set the standard to the IET students when in class.
Good luck! Reception sucks because your kind of treated like IET except you share barracks with othe prior service and have your own formation at the back when marching to chow. Once you get to AIT you will be classified as NIET. All privileges are restored i.e. off post, alcohol access, not having to sign in or out, not needing a battle buddy, ect. AIT at Ft Sill was dope af for my prior service classmates and I. Sill, but for Ft. Lee yes they keep you separate. When i was at my AIT they kept the Prior Service separate from the IET. So we would not be corrupted by the Prior Service. Then going to reclass for 88N at Ft. Lee again they kept us separate. Now, I was a SGT going through this so we were told we could not correct the IET SM's. Told not to even interact with with. Let the DS's deal with them they told us. Then you will be assigned to 1/78th Field Artillery unit. There you will be classified as a hold over. Good luck in your endeavors. FT Sill and the Lawton area are expanding weekly. Hope you like hot weather. We are now in prime tornado/ thunderstorm season. Enjoy!!!
