Will I deploy or stay at my duty station? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/will-i-deploy-or-stay-at-my-duty-station <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Hi, I am currently in ait as a 25 uniform and I am going to be graduating March 20th and my first duty station is fort Campbell. My drill sergeant told me that I will be part of the 101st airborne division, 327th infantry regiment, 1st brigade combat team when I go there. I read online that the brigade is about to or just recently deployed to Iraq. So I was curious as to what would happen with me in that situation? There is, what&#39;s called, Rear Detachment, where part of the unit stays at the duty station, supporting new arrivals, such as yourself. I would be prepared for a deployment, word to the wise. Even if it&#39;s not right away. They may very well send you a couple of months after they have already left. You don&#39;t ever have to worry about deployments as long as you stay with the 101st, every 2nd or 3rd year even in peacetime they will deploy you overseas. Sometimes not your whole company, sometimes just part of your Company dependent on MOS and needs. Been that way since the 1980&#39;s if not before. If your not deploying, then your having deployment drills or EDRE&#39;s. Ask your Drill Sergeant or someone in you training unit famillar with the 101st. Also your going to be sent to Air Assault School within the first 6 months after arriving on Ft. Campbell, if they can fit it in. 101st is one of the best run units in the Regular Army. Your first year there, they will keep you busy. There are several factors they have to consider including how much longer they will be there, and if there is a force cap limiting the number of people they can bring. This was back when deployments were 12 to 18 months though, so not sure about nowadays when most people are only going for 9. Don’t worry about deploying or not deploying, do your best at the training at hand. Show up at the right time, right place, in the correct uniform, with the right equipment. As far as knowing what will happen that would be more of a guess than a reality.
