Will I have the opportunity to try out for an SF slot at Fort Irwin?

I’m a 25 y/o E4 68w. With a 296 PT score out of AIT. My first duty station will be Ft. Irwin. I have heard that this is a good place to train for selection. My question is, will i have the chance to try out for a slot for selection

There should be a Special Operations Recruiter at your base when you get there. That's who you will want to talk to. When you've turned in all the paperwork, assuming you meet all qualifications, they will schedule you to go to selection. You don't compete for a slot to go, you just go when they can get you scheduled.

I am currently stationed here at Fort Irwin and yes there is one here. Personally this is the land of opportunity. I have achieved so much since I have been here. Unfortunately we are a NTC rotation priority duty station. Pretty much all hands on deck during rotation. But then again, maybe when you arrive at your new unit and they may see some potential in you for you to go. I hope this helps.

There’s a SOF recruitment there, and even some one hour briefings here every so months specifically for SF. Contact them. And usually they have a PT session in the morning for potential candidates to prep for selection. That’s only if your units allows you to attend instead of your organic units morning PT.

There are no slots for selection, that's not how it works. Train up and talk to an SF recruiter. SFAS is a higher priority to the Army than NTC rotations and even your command cannot prevent you from attending.

Was just stationed there 2014-2017, wfore i went warrant. Out of my 3 years there we let 5 personnel attend SFAS from my squadron. One of them graduates this month. They have recruiter that come there often.
