So it depends on when you get promoted. Normally when you are promotable and your receive assignment instructions, it’s usually in your promotion grade. I highly recommend you call your branch manager to inquire about it, doing this may help you to get a new assignment as an E5 to the same location. Good luck to you....Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Jan 23 at 2019 7:33 AM2019-01-23T07:33:50-05:002019-01-23T07:33:50-05:00SFC William Stephens A. Promotion of Soldiers to MSG and below will not be the sole reason for a PCS. However, Soldiers selected for promotion will be considered for assignments in their promotable grade.

So if you reenlisted for the assignment or came down on assignment instructions while promotable they projected you for your promotable grade (assuming e5 in this case). If you attained the promotable/promotion after than you should see your career counselor or call your branch manager.Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Jan 23 at 2019 10:30 AM2019-01-23T10:30:07-05:002019-01-23T10:30:07-05:00SGT Jim Ramge, MBA4309746

Never hurts to ask... If you were promotable when you replace on assignment, then you were placed onto an E-5 slot
If you requested the assignment through reenlistment, and you were a non promotable E4 at the time you requested it, HRC will attempt to put you into an E-5 slot at the same post.Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Jan 23 at 2019 11:57 AM2019-01-23T11:57:23-05:002019-01-23T11:57:23-05:00SFC Private RallyPoint Member4311443

I PCS'd 30 days after I was promoted to sergeant. The unit I went to had me slotted for Brigade PSD when I arrived since they didn't need any sergeants I was re-assigned to another battalion within that brigade. It is very easy for a unit to adjust fire but it never hurts to ask your branch manager.Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Jan 23 at 2019 9:46 PM2019-01-23T21:46:32-05:002019-01-23T21:46:32-05:002019-01-23T05:38:26-05:00
