Will I retain my TIG/TIS?

I just did an Active to Active transfer from Marine Corps to Army as a sergeant. I’ve been told that I will retain my Time-in-grade/time-in-service by some other Soldiers I’ve run into and others have said that I will not. If anyway has insight I would appreciate any guidance. Thanks!

It won’t affect TIS, and shouldn’t affect time in grade if you came into the Army at the same grade you left the Corps.

So I just did it. Go see the career counselor ASAP, they’ll do some math and science and it’ll adjust your BASD, you’ll keep your TIS depending on how long you were out but your TIG will reset.
So I did 5 years Marine Corps, got out as a Sgt, 2.5 years out then came back.

So now I’m like 9 years Acrive service, but only 6 or seven years time in service.... it’s weird but your TIG will reset and if you’re already a SGT you’ll have to go to BLC, the army’s Sargents course

The answer is in AR 600-20 Army command policy, under the section called enlisted time in grade.
Your time in service is federally recognized no matter what branch you're in

TIS will stay the same as long as you never fell off contract. TIG will be reset it happened to me back in 2008 when I switched and is about to happen to me again for SSG when I switch again. But my TIS has always stayed the same, AR 600-20 should break it down, go to your S-1 shop they should be able to fix it.

Your TIS counts towards pretty much any federal job. TIG you're kind of SOL on.

Find the right source! Other Soldiers unless they did the same thing aren’t going to know. Talk to the counselor that you did all the paperwork with for the Transfer. You should find the correct answer.

Well, I had some experience in this but it could have been just a hiccup in my situation. I left after 10 (2001) stayed out 4, reenlisted (2005) was told I only had 14 good years in 2013. By my math, I had 18, I was getting ready to slide down hill to retire. What had happened and has never been fixed is my (new) PEBD. If your not familiar Pay Entry Base Date is what they rate you time from. Instead of your original date of entry they issue you a new entry date based on some crap math. I hope I’ve muddied the water a bit. That’s how I felt, they honestly took years from my life with a math equation that calculates a date that has NOTHING to do with any real time date you entered or exit the military.

I recently made the switch over to the Army after a break in service. All the prior service guys I know had their TIG restarted to the date they entered the Army, unless you’re able to submit paperwork to have it continue.

Your time as a civilian will not count towards retirement or time in service.

I agree with the other posts, get the info from the correct place. When I was in however, I seem to remember that for active components to activate components i was pretty much a one to one. But I am not the sorce of truth.
