I finish my 6 years in November and join the IRR. My unit has me on the books to deploy in December even though my IRR contract is supposed to start. What is going to happen so I can plan my life? My unit is not responsive.

I never was deployed during my IRR time. But stay in shape just in case. Don't get fat.

They cannot deploy you once you ETS unless there is some sort of stop loss, but that would mean they would push back your separation date entirely. Short of world war III, I don't see that happening anytime soon. If I had to guess they probably have your name on the books as a placeholder, until your replacement arrives. They sometimes do that for manpower and budget purposes. Behind the scenes every billet is attached to a funding account where the money that actually pays your check comes from. They use that data to justify fiscal requirements when they are POM'ing for the budget.

Like everyone else says, once you separate from active duty, you are pretty much untouchable, with some very rare exceptions. Those exceptions require SECDEF or at a minimum the service secretary approval. Before they would do an involuntary recall of the IRR, they would tap into the performing reserve components like traditional reservists or guardsman. That would be in the form of offering a drilling reservist the opportunity to volunteer to go on a set of COADOS orders to augment an active duty unit. If they did tap into the IRR, it would be voluntary first. IMO, I don't think you have anything to worry about. You may want to check with your base's J1 personnel office and find out what the rules and expectations are.
