Will someone be disqualified from enlisting with a thyroid disease diagnosis?

I have a friend at work who has been trying to enlist in the USAF Reserves and has been working on losing weight to make the standard. After months of no progress they went to the doctor to find out that they have a thyroid disease. They want to know if it will disqualify them from enlisting with that diagnosis?

hyperthyroidism is disqualifying,
hypothyroidism: may enlist as long as it controlled with medication. *it is not so simple as just taking a pill everyday.*
you first need to find the right dosage, this could take years. i was lucky that it only about two years for me. most/many people need to have blood work done every six weeks - three months for years. i had blood work done every three months for seven years. last year i finally graduated to every six months. your friend is just getting started on his thyroid adventure - it's a life time adventure.
