SPC Isaac Felan 3902402 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I was in college for a semester right out of high school. I was very immature and didn&#39;t realize the damage I was doing by not attending classes and eventually dropping out. Now, I owe money directly to that university for the meal plan that I used up and dorm room that I occupied. Does the Army have a program that will pay back that student debt? I can&#39;t start school without the transcripts from there without paying my balance. I&#39;ll be speaking to an academic advisor next week to get further clarification, but I&#39;m very impatient. Will the Army pay student debt that isn't in the form of a loan? 2018-08-22T19:56:18-04:00 SPC Isaac Felan 3902402 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I was in college for a semester right out of high school. I&#39;d check with a recruiter or an hr representative Response by SrA John Monette made Aug 22 at 2018 8:54 PM 2018-08-22T20:54:19-04:00 2018-08-22T20:54:19-04:00 Capt Daniel Goodman 3902744 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Uhh...aside from some naivemthing like as in I haven&#39;t a clue, why don&#39;t we back up for a cpl of mins, and let myself and others ry to help you try to do this thing the right way this time, OK? As for our problem, candidly, though, as I&#39;d said, I haven&#39;t a clue, I wouldn&#39;t exactly count on the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, or Santa Claus for that...that being said, as I&#39;d explained, candidly, I haven&#39;t a clue, though I kids doubt it. Now, I saw you&#39;re listed as 68W combat !educ, so, of you&#39;ve gt the ambition, I&#39;ve got the direction for you, it depends on he ambitious and focused you are or wanna be...I&#39;d need to know a whole slew more, ambitions, objectives, goals, do you want active duty for the full 20 yes, or to ultimately get out? If you wanna stay in, do you want senior enlisted? Warrant? Commissioned? What do you want long term? How much toward an assocs or Bach have you done? What specific course titles, in detail? What grades? GPA? Do you want RN? NP? PA?! MD/DO? Would you be willing to try other svcs to see what you can get in terms of chances to go further? I and others can&#39;t help you with vague gemeralities...if you want help and direction, trust me, I can suggest a god deal, however, the more you relate, the easier it&#39;d be, honest, OK? Now, as for your other problem, !my earnest advice is to call your school, get the bursar and/or admin on the phone, set up a payment plan you and they can live with, !aybe with help of an attorney, if you can manage it, and set up an allotment out of your pay to pay Tue school back, taking payments out of your hands. One of the major no-nos of active duty oiue is debt, I assure you...the more responsible you are, the fewer it&#39;ll encroach on your active duty life, so believe me when I tepp you, trust what I say as heartfelt advice, truth, and tell !e what you want to accomplish, while the debt is paid off...that you&#39;re on active speaks well for you, certainly, and I genuinely think if you set up such a payment plan, the school, will entirely understand...how you&#39;d get attorney advice, that I can&#39;t help you with, there are civilian debt management services, of course, however, you must, must, must pay it off, there&#39;s no way out of that, schools have a perfect right to refuse you a transcript if you owe them, that:s quite cut and dry, I think, God knows I spent enough time around schools to reasonably be certain that such is the case, honest...my sole object is to try to help point out in proper directions...at the same time, you need to be absolutely 100% above reproach in your unit, obviously, your performance has to be unfailingly cooperative at all times, to !maximize your performance evals, and you should be living, practycappy camping out in your installation education center...now, also, have you finished combat medic training? How well did you do? Do you want to go further clinically? Or do you want to eventually do something nonclinical? Do you have flight interests at all? Do you have any interest in ROTC or comparable programs, whether Army or another service? Those are the really important kinds of things we all need to know here to try to seriously help you, OK? The debt problem, trust !e, pay it off as quickly as possible, be as candid as you can he with the school, do whatever is the !ost liberal way they&#39;ll let you pay it off, set up an allotment as I&#39;d explained, regardless of how long 8t tales to pay it back, and concentrate on your work and school, you&#39;re I think not gonna find some easy shortcut to jamdpe it, I wish I could tell you I thought one exists, and please do know, I&#39;m only swing those things here for your good to really try y have us app here be able to help you, OK? If your family might help, ask ten, set up an allotment with them if they&#39;ll help out, so they know you&#39;re serious, if you&#39;re for reap, I can&#39;t imagine they miuht not he willing to try to help you get out from under, so long as, as you described, you&#39;ve turned over a new leaf in such regards...of you&#39;d care to chat. I&#39;m here, certainly, by all !eamd...do a thorough, detailed biosketch, take the time to type it out, and paste it in here, even if only a piece at a time, and re!e!her, the more you explain, the more I and others can suggest...our sole function is to further your unit, the end, cut and dry, that is it, do whatever you&#39;re told with alacrity, as well as enthusiasm, volunteer so far as you&#39;re able for additional duties, charity drives, Boy Scouts, whatever, do all your enlisted coursework for your training where you are ASAP and get it out of the way, immediately, with zero procrastination...you should be in school continuously, which major is up to you, neinhnclimicsl, you&#39;d find it likely a whole lot easier to go for more clinical training as that fits with your work, believe me, I know...I was Army ROTC, then went USAF OTS instead, I didn&#39;t have clue one what I was doing, I&#39;d wanted the clinical side, I wound up assigned wrong, under the wrong people, for all the wrong reasons, and totally bollized it up for that reas,on, I&#39;d wanted medicine, I&#39;d wanted to be a flight surgeon, I eventually went doctoral allied health, we shut my license sevl us ago, I&#39;m total perm disabled now, I&#39;d wanted to go into the USPHS Commissioned Corps, it&#39;d take 10 years to explain it all to you, honest...I hope that at least helps to some extent...if you&#39;d care to chat further, elaborate as I&#39;d said, and I&#39;ll try to send you as much as I can to try to help point you in the right direction, OK? Dorm and food not included. But you are in the army now and have a paycheck. I highly recommend you to start paying before the institution puts a levy on your income. Good luck in your future endeavors. I got CLR when I came in. I had to pay interest I believe on the loan and the Army paid the principle amount. But I also completed a Bachelor&#39;s before I came in. It was for the loans I had used - that&#39;s it.
