There's a saying that goes something like walk softly but carry a big stick...well, you keep pushing the sleeping giant and you are going to get hit with that big stick! Do you foresee a change in our Commanders actions and temperament after the President elect assumes his office (based on his blunt character)?

I expect President-elect Donald Trump will walk softly and carry an enormous stick CSM Michael J. Uhlig. Iran has been trying to exert its standing in the Muslim world since the 1979 Revolution. They have made gains with their proxies Houthis in Yemen and Hezbollah in Lebanon and Syria and have influence over the Shia in Iraq but they are at best a regional power.
I expect that dealing with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and their Quds force is frequently in the realm of Special Operations, CIA, etc.
In 1980 Iran did its best to humiliate POTUS Jimmy Carter before Ronald Reagan was sworn in as POTUS in January 1981.
I expect Iran will do its best to humiliate lame-duck POTUS Obama and then will extend some kind of olive branch after Donald Trump is sworn in as President.

CSM Michael J. Uhlig I hope that he'll let his Commanders execute the duties and orders they are given within the civilian structure of leadership that we have. I hope he will listen to those on the ground that have first hand knowledge of what is happening and utlize their COA's that they develop through a fully vested Pentagon of highly skilled planners. We never want our Commanders to rogue, but we need to trust in their ability to assess the AOR and provide the very best recommendations and COAs. Just my opinion Michael - great question!

Embolden? No. They're plenty bold enough. Authorize? I sure hope so, and I do believe so. China is already doing the 'we just want to get along' dance.
