I wouldn't care if we cut 200k, so long as our capability wasn't reduce And we're already at the point where readiness is affected for the troops we so have.

We either need a drastic reexamination of our nation defense strategy, a restructure and complete overhaul of how the American military operates, or more soldiers to efficiently operate in our current system. 1SG Private RallyPoint Member Fri, 11 Sep 2015 13:59:08 -0400 2015-09-11T13:59:08-04:00 Response by SFC Everett Oliver made Sep 11 at 2015 2:02 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/will-the-u-s-stop-cutting-the-military-forces?n=959255&urlhash=959255

Just as soon as we get some real leadership in Washington. Big thing to remember is that personnel cuts are funds driven not requirements driven. As a DoD we perform requirements drills and produce a number needed to support the given scenario but congress decides how much funding they are going to give us. With the technology price going skyward, it leaves less funding for personnel. Politicians tend to forget about the needs of our country's defenses when they are sitting in DC and never served a day in their lives. Some have, but not enough to make a majority. Don't get me wrong, I have served with many homosexual dudes in the Army. I have zero objection to it. But being transgender is, in my opinion, being at war with yourself. In a place where ego, bravado, and chest-beating thrives, did you feel at near constant conflict? With who you are deep inside versus the external animal portrayed to your comrades?

I don't know Chief, the transgendered inclusion seems hard to me. Homosexual- no issue. But knowing the fierce loyalty to each other, the environment where rough men consistently do rowdy things, where taking the lives of other humans is the game, I can't imagine a member of America's most-crucial fighting formation to possess such internal conflict.

Or maybe I have it all wrong. I don't know. This definitely has my interest.

Much is said about the opening Infantry to women. A lot of counter-arguments revolve around how it could upset the natural cohesion that occurs in a group of men. I'm curious to hear your perspective as I think both conversations are related.

Thanks for any insight you can provide. 1SG Private RallyPoint Member Fri, 11 Sep 2015 15:41:12 -0400 2015-09-11T15:41:12-04:00 Response by COL Jean (John) F.
