Currently Microsoft announced the release of Windows 10 to the public sometime this year as a free upgrade for 1 year.
This new OS will go into Laptops, Desktops, Ipads, and phones.
With Windows 7 ending life in 5 more years, do you think the new OS will replace Windows 7 currently used by many?

I think windows 10 will be a good hybrid, I've taken a look at it,though admittedly I haven't installed it yet though I could. I think it will be positive for most people. It'll be a free upgrade for a year though enterprise users will have to pay for the upgrade.

One doesn't always have to buy another laptop or computer. All you need is another Hard drive, and a DVD with a Windows OS. Its Cheaper that way. But if that is not possible, then the best thing to do is hold off. The Downloadable Windows 10 Preview is only for testing and will run down, meaning that when the upgrade starts, this preview version will start the clock to shut down, that means in my case I will have to re install a clean version of Windows 7 Pro. Then have it upgraded to Windows 10.

Have not seen the preview yet, just been a bit busy. I am looking forward to it, I know its going to have lots of bugs or minor issues but overall I think it will be an improvement overall.

As long as you have a valid license you will get the upgrade. I cant 100% confirm if this applies to starters editions though.

Starters edition is an OS that is manufacture installed when a Laptop is sold to the market. One can upgrade that OS to your edition.

SPC (Join to see) a few weeks ago I purchased a laptop in Denver Colorado with this OS, it has a 250 GB ide hdd and 1 GB ram with windows 7 starters edition. I had to add an additional 1 GB of ram I had around, remove the HDD and replace it with a 190 GB SSD, then installed Windows 7 Pro in it. I didn't sell it I gave it always to someone whom was looking for work To add more interest to this top, since it was a Solid State hard Drive I had to disable the defragmenter, change the bios to allow ACHI before I install the OS and it works great for the user. Windows 10 is going to be offered as a free upgrade for the 1st year, to all users of Win 7 and 8, whether licensed or not.

So it seems like a win-win situation. Further, everything I've seen about WIn10 is very positive. Faster, better, more secure, hybrid interface.

I will likely upgrade both my computers at home to Win 10 (one is 7, the other 8.1)

This includes tablets and Wiindows Cell phone. However I tested the preview version on a Windows 8.1 cell phone I do not recommend any one to this, you will void the warrantee on the phone and the OS on the cell is not as stable as expected. To restore the phone with a Windows 10 preview back to Windows 8.1 will not be possible it will fail, restored will only put the Windows 10 back as clean installaltion and activation will or might fail on that phone. Updates will work depending of how your updates are set. 2 versions , one is to update slowly when it becomes avail, the other is the fast version which will down load the updates as they come available...Under the Windows 10 update, there might appear a failed with an update that MS will not correct, this can be corrected by switching the how the downloads are set in your cell phone, by switching the error messages will go away. This is FYI and not known by many whom have tried to resolved this, but now you know. Later in a week or two you will find your will be able to update with out issues.
