With protests ramping up in Hong Kong, what are the chances China will send in the PLA to crack down on protesters?

We all know what happened at Tienanmen Square, is there a chance of China reacting in a similar fashion if these protests continue to escalate?

SPC Angela Burnham it is all speculation; but I don't think China wants the publicity of another Tienanmen Square especially with Social Media ready to explode with it.

Not very likely.
Hong Kong is much easier to contain just due to geography, and China has tight control of media, online and conventional. Most Chinese probably don't even know there are protests, or that there were in Tianamen Square for that matter.
Thirty years ago, Tianamen Square was directly adjacent to the Chinese seat of power and a clear and present danger to the regime, hence the heavy response. At the time, I was surprised that it was allowed to play out as long as it was. The presence of Western media probably had something to do with that.
I think they let the Hong Kong protests fizzle out, then round up the trouble makers to disappear.

Nice share SPC Angela Burnham - The Chicom's just blinked... I thought after Tiananmen Square, they'd rush to crush dissent. Maybe they're worried about ruining the Golden Goose that is Hong Kong?? I'm sorry, but the Brits made a mistake giving up control of this colony. If they didn't want to run it, the US should have stepped in and assumed control IMO.

China needs to be knocked down a few pegs & this is happening- their economy is contracting, unlike what their "official numbers" suggest. Tarrifs are hurting China, far more than the US. The fact is businesses are fleeing China in droves currently, bound for other countries. Yes, of course the US has our own problems, but China's are far, far worse!!

One can only hope. I personally believe that Hong Kong may be a Trojan Horse/Poison pill that eventually kills the Communist regime. We don't see much of it, but China has far greater wealth disparity than the Western world and ethnic groups that have hated each other for 5000 years. That is a wild pony waiting to spook.
