Regardless you won't come out of AIT with a degree. The leadership down at METC has been working with some colleges to allow individuals to earn a degree with some additional training, but I don't think anything has been established at this point in time. I know on the PTA side there has been talk of transitioning to a Bachelor's degree, but that's probably years away. OT schools are in the process of transitioning from an entry level Master's to a clinical Doctorate. I imagine that's going to keep their credentialing body, AOTA, busy for a while so any "degree creep" for OTAs is probably several years off. If and when you pass, you can apply through your state to obtain your professional licensure and be considered a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant.
I was also able to attend a Master’s bridge program from COTA to OTR using my military transcripts, you just have to do the leg work for the certification and professional licensure.
