Depending on its mission, it could siphon troops from the air force, the navy or marines. If it's just involving satellites it will be taking over a mission of the air force, much like the creation of the air force took over the fixed wing flight responsibly from the army air corps. If the ultimate scope of the space force is to eventually have massive ships that engage in ship to ship combat, that would seem to lend itself better to naval and marine personnel. Either way, it sounds like it will be its own individual branch of service. Essentially the only branch that doesn't seem like it could be having talent plucked from it would be the army. Additionally, the air force, navy and marines are known for being able to conduct missions involving fixed wing aircraft, so if it's to be a military version of NASA, those branches would be your best option for candidates. Look at ground support for troops, the A-10 has saved so many lives, but the AF has been trying to dump it for 15 years. They are going to want their money going to things they want, not things that other services want. Any future war with any country with any kind of space program is going to be fought as much in space, as it will be on earth. We used terrain maps when I was in the service, how many people now in the military if you take away their GPS satellites can find their way around. Same with ships I would imagine, not sure how many people can use a sexton anymore to figure out where they are. I'm imagining the gang from the Big Bang Theory leading the way, space nerds, guys who are smart and PT and such wouldn't matter at all. I'm not sure if this is the road to the Star Wars program Regan broke out many years ago that scared the Russians to death. The AF already has air superiority and will continue to do so if the F35 is the real deal and not an engineering failure, they're betting a lot on that. The F15s are proven performers and the A10s are the best in the business in what they do, you undermine both stealth and firepower trying to make one platform do all, being a simple jarhead sometimes you need multiple platforms that only do one thing well. If I'm stuck on the ground I want to hear the A10 come on station not a fast mover.
