Also they still have a year if one in the relationship gets promoted to E-5 while the other doesn't. It's none of their business what you do on your private time so long as it does not interfere with the good order and discipline of the unit. The ACLU should have some fun with this one. Believe it or not, I don't reference AR 600-20 that often.

When the prohibitions on officer/enlisted relationships were imposed in 1999, I was formally briefed with my entire company. That happened prior to the effective date. I've seen nothing like that so far for the current policy. Here's a question: what about Corporals? Can they date other NCOs (SGTs and above)? Can they date other Enlisted (E4s in particular)?

If they aren't harming the unit/service, should I have to care?

In general I think we really need to stop and remember "the spirit of the regulation" and let it govern instead of making the "letter of the law" cover every potential negative situation. I believe we need to quit making big solutions to small problems. I should trademark that phrase. I have a feeling in this "new fiscally constrained environment" it is going to catch on.
