Amidst all of the recent controversy surrounding the rebel flag and other symbols of the confederacy, the Women of the Confederacy monument in North Carolina was vandalized. Is this just the latest bit of drama or is it a sign of actions and thoughts that are not going to stop? Do you think monuments and symbols of the Civil War are being used as new age signs to incite or rally support for racial current tensions?

Where is the tolerance and acceptance of our past? It's why we are thruway we are now. Learn from the past. Keep the monuments and use them as teaching tools.

SSgt Alex Robinson very well said. Accept the mistakes of our past and use the lessons they provide to ensure we do not repeat them moving forward.

Exactly! and look at the positive. The positive is the South lost, the North won and Lincoln implemented the Emancipation Proclamation and freed the slaves...and though it took years and years, things for black people started getting better...with help from those like Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks and others.
I see the cup half FULL....all of these idiots wanting to make the confederacy disappear see the cup half empty.

I'm a firm believer that vandalism or riot type activity doesn't solve any social, racial or economic issues. That monument and hundreds more like it have stood for ages and now people who don't know how to voice their issues or concerns in a safe and educated manner have decided to take out their anger on them.
