But it will certainly be a lot easier and less complicated on the back side if you wait. If you get married enroute and show up with your new wife, you will find yourself broke, possibly homeless for a while, and place a lot of unneeded stress on your new spouse. Do think marrying your spouse, when your unit is in intensive ops getting ready to deploy (so you won't be home all that much.) Then leaving her for a year or more, away from home and away from her family support network; is looking out for her best interests? You don't want to drag her into a new lifestyle until YOU know what is going on. Your unit does not have to make time in the OPTEMPO for your married life. Recon 1st- cost of living, location of housing on/near post(depending on the unit/MOS- you could be subject to periodic 2 hr recalls). Jobs for her etc. You should be building up leave time-- once you have the answers and YOU BOTH discuss them, then take some leave time (when available) and get married and start her transition. You have to put in the correct paperwork at the finance office as soon as you get your marriage certificate. Have them backdate the pay from the day you got married. Obviously these are all recommendations. I recommend getting married however leave her behind on the PCS to your unit. Once you get to the unit fill out all necessary paperwork then bring her over. The reason why is if you bring her and she's not in your file everything is out of your pocket for her accommodations and living space until she is registered. I recommend getting married before the move though because it will be harder to get married when your at your duty station due to distance. No money, no plan. It did not present a good first impression, and it took a lot of other people's time getting them situated. That is not how you want to start your career.
If you are ready for a lifelong marital commitment, a few more weeks to get things lined out, i.e. where are you going to live, is worth it. It was hell on her. She knew nobody, couldn't find her way around, had no rights as a spouse, nothing. If you want, marry her and leave her at home till you are established, all the paperwork is complete, she is enrolled in DEERS, has an ID card and you have established housing.
