You can sit down and come with several reasons from a personal standpoint as well as many more from a knowledge standpoint. The ability to "re-connect" with other members and learn from their experience just by searching a subject is as SSG Robert Burns put it ... priceless.

The Point has been an awesome way for me to network and connect with other veterans. There are many great men and women on this sight that will give you good advice and always try to steer you in the right direction. There are also many great resources for vets to keep up with their benefits and to also find employment. I love this site and i'm constantly telling other vets to check it out and get signed up.

Let's see the reasons to join RallyPoint?

First there's the obvious such as reconnecting with other service members, making friends with new ones. Discussing a wide variety of topics.

Now that you're hooked on those stay for the entertainment value of such topics as should the military allow lighted soled running shoes, SSG V. Michelle Woods efforts to be allowed to wear a gown at a ball, SSG Robert Burns attempt to get his influence score added to his evaluations. Plus you can respond to overzealous First Sergeants and Sergeants Major creating discussions to complain that other discussions aren't focused enough on military topics. Plus you can even waste braincells reading discussions like should a 2nd Lt salute a 1st Lt (sorry I had to bring that traumatic discussion and the subsequent ones that attempted to stop it before it became self aware and invaded everyone's feed).

So there's something for everybody from those looking to advance their careers in the military, improve their career opportunities as veterans, discuss serious issues, discuss not so serious issues, respectfully respond to officers, and senior enlisted to express your disagreement on a wide variety of topics.

RallyPoint is a great network for veterans IMHO. Get to know members from all walks of life, branches of military and job skills. Professionals at what they do then and now. Happy I stummbled across it.

I think RallyPoint, like the video states, is a great resource for military members of all grades to communicate. The ability to express ideas, concerns, knowledge and experience, not to mention the networking possibilities, is an invaluable tool for all currently serving members of the military.

That being said, being a veteran who has been out for just over 12 years now, I'm not sure I would be a wealth of knowledge or experience. The military has evolved so much in just the 12 years I've been out, my experience and knowledge might be viewed as "outdated" or "antiquated". By the time I got out in 2002, I was being referred to (In a friendly way) as "fossil" by the newer, younger troops.

RallyPoint, for veterans like me, is an opportunity to connect with those of a like mindset. Even though I've been out for over a decade, I am still certainly more in my comfort zone talking or chatting with soldiers than civilians. It's hard to deprogram yourself and It's nice to have a forum where there are others who share such a big commonality with you.

Well, that's just my humble opinion, for what it's worth. Thank you for being, RallyPoint.

I am particularly intrigued by the views and opinions shared by fellow veterans on topics ranging from 'global matters of importance' to 'interest shared in the sports community'. We are a diverse group but, just as in uniform, one with many common interests. I'm also pleased to see how we have migrated to the civilian workforce with many different employers and institutions represented. This speaks loudly for our collective ability to successfully transition through life! Proof positive of the traits and priciples we developed while in uniform and willingness to always press forward.

This is information we need to share with the men and women still serving; still in uniform. Let the message be "there is a bright light at the end of the tunnel". There are opportunities available if you want them. Perhaps this will help with the societal issue of "veteran homlessness" which has become all to prominent.

Become a mentor to those still serving. Encourage forward thinking in terms of future opportunities. Provide thoughtfull messaging to individuals as how to best prepare for life after service.

I think there's a great deal we can do to assist. I think RP is a great venue for this to happen!

I have been recommending people I know to join because there is so much knowledge. They can come and ask questions, have someone to talk to and have a support system.

For me Rally Point has been more than a site for just re-connecting with old friends. What I love about it the most is that I can talk to people who truly understand. Some times its hard sharing info and experiences with non-military connected people.

There are many great reasons to join. A perfect way to network, meet fellow servicemen and woman and find old friends. A perfect opportunity to explore different positions and learn of different installation within our vast military community. I enjoy seeking advice, mentor ship and support from all branches of the service and from various MOS.

I wish more people from my unit would join. This is an invaluable source of intelligence as anyone can start conversations and pick each other's brains on many topics. I wish there were more features like group chats, video conferencing, and more (if anyone is interested in hearing me out).

Besides the obvious reasons about talking to people who "talk the same talk" as you do...I'd say because it beats the mind numbing, brain matter dissolving topics people talk about on FB.

It's another tool to have to network and job hunt. A great way to talk about the good ol days and to keep up with what's going on in today's military. It also provides information on new policies and directives that can affect retirees and veterans.

This is really the first inter-service sites I've been on where the communication is great, no matter the rank or time one has served. The connection values are great. I'm guessing if you're getting out there are great contacts as well. I'm hooked!

It has a vast amount of military experience you can tap into.

Truthfully, there is a social void that many sites may touch upon but sometimes you just NEED to have interesting and intelligent discussions with people who "get it." I can't talk about 99.9% of these topics with my family because they don't get it. It can be frustrating but here there is an overall sense of comfortably as well as professionalism here that many sites are lacking. Lately there have been a few individuals that lack tack and/or professionalism but I still feel they are the exception and not the rule on RallyPoint.

It is one of the few places where any rank and from any service can get advice from active and retired people that have a outlook that goes well beyond what they could get physically looking.

I would never be able to plop down and talk to a Gunny, a CMSgt, a Major, a SFC, and Gen McCrystal. There was a void that has been filled and people that join get real life answers to questions that they have.

I think back to a post where a kid is getting ready to leave for Navy boot camp and he wants to know what to do to become a good sailor. The answers were amazing and I wish I had had somebody tell me the things he was told before I left.

That is why people should join.
