We had 4.2" mortars when I was in my cab unit 2/9 Cav. We also had the M60 as a tank back then. We used plotting boards, today they use computers. ' Bout the only advice I could give you is don't forget your ear plugs. If you do, I hope you know a smoker, 2 cigarette filters make good field expedient ear plugs. That is, unless the military finally figured out how to quiet down the sound of them to sound like they do in the movies.

They called us the "worst of the no war" a pawn shop had the sign ARTEP TARGETS SUPPLIED BY CUBA.

Matter of fact I am sure someone on this site can look up my service. I started in Bravo company. My platoon sergeant was SFC Thompson. My PL was 1st lt. Vincent Brooks. The same man who later was spokesman for the pentagon the first time to Iraq.

Hope the computers were/are faster. Using a plotting board we were able to put rounds down a ravine, 5 in a row, southeast to northwest within 1 minute. Meaning the gunners had to visualize the ravine to turn AND elevate the tube just so. One of my prouder moments. Mounted, in the 113 APCs.

Pray.. There are two things that are a constant..oppressive heat and the red headed cooked woodpecker..every time I went I was on my last brown t-shirt and last pair of socks before the last mission and what does it do? Rain right before we set out for the objective..have fun and don't worry it's only thirty days or so..
