If I reenlist to extend my IRR time, what are the odds of getting called back in for a muster or something along those lines? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/worth-reenlisting-into-irr

Hello Guys/Gals,

The time has come that its time for me to separate from the military and was presented with the possibility of reenlisting to extend my IRR time. I was active for 6 years and did a try one in the reserves and it wasn't for me. The reason behind extending my IRR time would be to keep my foot in the door if for some reason I needed or wanted to come back in.

My main question is what are the odds of getting called back in for a muster or something along those lines? I spoke with my units counselor but I don't trust a lot of what the Army is selling. She said it would be VERY rare that I would ever get called back in and If I did it would be for a records review annually and most of that is done digitally. Bottom line I don't want to to have to come back in for dumb stuff and strictly want to use the extended time to keep an opportunity available to me.

let me know If I'm expecting too much

V/r

Mike Wed, 06 Jul 2022 11:06:37 -0400 If I reenlist to extend my IRR time, what are the odds of getting called back in for a muster or something along those lines? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/worth-reenlisting-into-irr

Hello Guys/Gals,

The time has come that its time for me to separate from the military and was presented with the possibility of reenlisting to extend my IRR time. That is oxymoron written all over it.

There is always the inherent risk of getting recalled from the IRR. The odds are low, but never 100% not getting called back.

Ultimately, the choice is yours. Flip a coin and see where it lands. At age 60 that’s for the rest of your life. Know any other part time gig that provides that? The network for civilian employment opportunities in the reserves can BA a viable asset too! Think of it as a you pay me now and later opportunity you can finish reserve commitments by 38-39 years of age at at least E-7 for retirement. Apply yourselves and maybe you could make CW-2 or 3. Take a gander at the reserve pay charts for a CWO and your starting to talk decent amounts for a part time income. I’m presently 3 years from starting to collect my reserve retirement pay. Medical is gonna come with it. Unlike my civilian counterparts who have to figure health care plans if the retire before 65 I don’t have that worry…just think about it! Oh and enlisted in the reserves go get a few more MOS while your just an E-6 SSG. Just hope it helps you really think it over… LTC John Mohor Wed, 06 Jul 2022 21:44:41 -0400 2022-07-06T21:44:41-04:00 Response by SrA John Monette made Jul 7 at 2022 7:21 AM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/worth-reenlisting-into-irr?n=7762462&urlhash=7762462

You're expecting too much. Does remaining in the IRR make any difference for a Prior Service Recruits? AD will look at the R-Code, as does the Army Reserve or Army National Guard, although it is much easier to get waivers for the most part for some conditions. If joining back up is the sole reason to stay IRR, is it really important. CPT Lawrence Cable Sat, 09 Jul 2022 08:07:18 -0400 2022-07-09T08:07:18-04:00 2022-07-06T11:06:37-04:00
