Is this a mistake that I should have addressed or does this type of thing happen often? Would active duty personnel attend reclass training at a National Guard base? It may also be a matter of funding or class sizes in an active duty class. It happens, not to worry. That's the one that I went to. The instructors were very knowledgeable with loads of experience to draw on. The training is time condensed, but believe you me, it is still conducted to standard. One of the ways they shorten it is that 19D AIT covers both Bradley and HMMWV training--tactically, operationally, and maintenance--while the NG course will be an either/or depending on the type of unit you will be assigned to. All of the tasks needed to check the boxes will be done. You will also spend most nights in lodging. We had several field problems that ran late into the night, but still got 5hrs in a bed. I think we only slept in the field 4 nights. I currently instruct 31B but my brother, also a SSG, teaches 19D. The quality of the training is good and often can be better than AIT because we aren't having to teach you more basic soldiering. The expectation, as a re-class, is that you only need to be taught MOS specific training. I can't speak for all training sites but I think ours does a fine job of training soldiers of any component. If the mos is a very crucial and or analytical then you would go to the appropriate school, but if the state has some one qualified locally and wants to preserve some funding what you think they are going to do ! As I recall, in order to get promoted, once you are on the OML, You must have already attended that next level NCOES. Since big Army is making a valiant effort to ensure selected NCO's are enrolled in the first available acredited course, I'd take and run. It "Will" meet all requirements for promotion! Good Luck! All tank battalions were were getting rid of Delta company's across the board and E-4 promote able were asked if they wanted stay 19K or go back to FT.Knox to re-class to 19D. It was about 2 months of training I think and while although we were living in the same building as the raw recruits we lived on the other side of them. Basically we just partied for 2 months straight because the drills did not bother us at all. WE might go to a class or two or sometimes not at all. Spent a weekend in the field and had to hump it with the troops at the end of the 2 months. It was a joke. They are probably prepared better as this happens more often. There was just no protocols for it at the time. Also although I was a fantastic soldier on my M1A1 Abrams I got promoted to E-5 and didn't know squat about being a Cav scout. My unit was not mechanized. No Bradly's which would at least be familiar. So I go to my new unit and I know less than an E-3 . I felt like an idiot. I ended up stepping on a landmine a couple months later but that's another story. That's my experience .Good luck. The instructors are TRADOC certified. They use TRADOC accredited POIs and lesson plans. They are often shorter because the Guard works weekends. And yes, they are often more laid back. But the training itself will be just as good, (sometimes better) than an Active Component school. I am so freaking fed up, just because is a NG post? since big Army and active duty soldiers see NG as an incompetent organization. I was National guard and I really didn't question if the training site was NG or RA, because a lot of the instructors in NG training sites are prior active duty with a lot of knowledge and experience. It's up to you to use the tool you learn and become proficient at your unit. You might learn a few things that you haven't seen yet!
