Greetings all,
I am newly enlisted as a 25 Uniform in the National Guard, I choose this path because I want to pursue my civilian career while pursuing my dreams of serving my country. I would like your advice in how beneficial would be my IT background towards my selected MOS. If is beneficial, I will highly appreciate your input on how it would be. My apologies if this question seems trivial, but I really don’t have any experience on the matter.
Regards,
KelvinMon, 05 Aug 2019 15:47:11 -0400Would an Information Technology degree benefit me to perform, and develop myself, as a 25U Signal Support Systems Specialist?

Kelvin,
Yes. It certainly would. Upon graduation, I expect you will find yourself with a plethora of employment opportunities. I do make the recommendation of OCS or becoming a Warrant Officer once you attain your degree. Being enlisted will allow you to hone your craft, being an officer will allow you to lead, manage, plan, your troops. I also think Intel might an option. You will have skills that the Army just doesn't have too many of. Plenty of door kickers, but cyber security, probably not. That is the future, that is the employment in life after the Military
Congratulations in joining the Army National Guard!
BillLTC Bill KoskiMon, 05 Aug 2019 15:56:42 -04002019-08-05T15:56:42-04:00Response by SGT Private RallyPoint Member made Aug 5 at 2019 4:11 PM

A security + cert and Cisco cert is worth more than a degree. The degree will help, yes. But companies want the certs the most The military will pay for it. Ask your readiness or training NCO about it.SGT Private RallyPoint MemberMon, 05 Aug 2019 16:11:39 -04002019-08-05T16:11:39-04:00Response by LCpl Private RallyPoint Member made Aug 5 at 2019 7:20 PM

Hey Kelvin,
I work in the IT field. Any experience you have, whether it be through military or college, is good experience. Make sure that you have all your certifications or degrees listed on your resume. If you plan to stick with the military, even warrant officer or OCS would be a great opportunity.LCpl Private RallyPoint MemberMon, 05 Aug 2019 19:20:21 -04002019-08-05T19:20:21-04:002019-08-05T15:47:11-04:00
