Would anyone on here know about how to volunteer to assist with MWR?

I was just eager to ask a question; I was wondering if anyone on here would be at all familiar with how to get involved with volunteering to help with any of the various MWR groups of any of the units for any of the svcs in our area, or with any other aspects besides MWR, per SE. I've looked into the topic somewhat and found some things, of course, however, I also thought to ask her as well. Pls understand, I'm not referring to volunteering with VA, I know that's worthwhile, certainly, however, I'd just personally prefer to volunteer to actually assist an actual unit, if at all possible. I'd seen some mention of such various volunteering mechanisms, and was just curious if anyone onnte site here might possibly be involved, or know specifically how one could get involved, as such, many thanks.

Capt Daniel Goodman Great question and an even better aspiration. My answer is Army specific. If you are close to an Army base I would suggest you go to the Garrison Headquarters and look for the MWR Director or Deputy. They will point you towards their volunteer committee or rep. If they are organized like my Installation there will be events like "Trunk or Treat" for Halloween, "Share a Meal" for Christmas, and "Sponsor a Vet." These activities and many more are ongoing throughout the year and require a large number of volunteers. Last year for instance I read books to a third grade class and have been invited back to continue that established relationship. GL!!

Ii follow, much appreciated, I'd seen some of that on the army volunteer corps pages for army MWR. There is a facility not horribly far from us, though it is a ways away. That being said, I'd wondered something else, if you might possibly know at all. There's a reserve facility relatively close by us, comparatively new, that I'd wondered if volunteering at might be possible at all. I gather it's multi svc, possibly mainly Navy, though I gather there's army presence there as well. It's not that my wife and i don't understand your reason for suggesting what you did, we do, of course it's just that the place near us is quite literally almost out our front door, which is particularly why we had thought to have me ask about it. I also realize that, being as I gather you're army, sir, that your answer was principally in that direction. It's just that if you have any thoughts about how I might conceivably make myself of use there, being as it's so close, they'd obv be most greatly appreciated. I've looked into also going USCG auxiliary, being as they do have some fairly interesting and actually quite real activities, where volunteers are highly integrated. The same holds true for civil air patrol (CAP), which I'd also seriously considered, and were still waiting on USCG auxiliary, it's just that the reserve center being so nearby us seems a fantastic opportunity, if in fact a volunteer mechanism existed. I've seen numerous websites for such volunteer involvement, aside from the one for army, it's just that we'd obv welcome any thoughts you and or others here might possibly have to offer, whenever further convenient, many thanks.

Purely as an added thought there might also be Natl guard there as well, though that's only a guess, certainly, we gather its principally a reserve facility as I'd mentioned, many thanks. We realize also that you might well need to give the whole thing some thought, especially for the aspect of the other svcs there, as well, for any further thought you might be able to!give the whole problem, at all, once again, many thanks, sir.

Also the same would apply to a USAF base, there is always a MWR office. that would be a good place to find out.

Capt Daniel Goodman As a lifetime addict to volunteering, the first thing that came to mind was walk into the MWR office and ask. Question nicely vaguely worded. Be sure to know how to make coffee. Sounds silly, but I have never volunteered anywhere that coffee wasn't available. I also would suggest looking into the American Red Cross and their Service to Military Families.
