I am trying to switch from 89B to a 92Y. I requested for a class date a month ago and have still not heard anything. Also I checked to see if there was a need for 92Ys and that I would have to wait til the next fiscal year. Why would I have to wait so long?

If anyone could answer it would be greatly appreciated.Thu, 03 Jun 2021 21:51:39 -0400Would I have to wait until the next fiscal date, which is in 5 months for a reclass spot?

If there is no class seat then there is no class seat. 95% of the class seats go to initial entry Soldiers and only a tiny amount go to reclass. A 92Y class seat could pop up tomorrow or not for another two years. You might never be eligible to take one when it's available, or there may never be a class seat available when you're eligible to reclass to it.

Either:
1 pick a handful of jobs yo are willing to take
2 pick a job the Army always needs like 17E,
3 join the Reserve Component and reclass wit them (it may take two years to go to school)
4 pick something else and PCS awaySFC Private RallyPoint MemberFri, 04 Jun 2021 00:25:02 -04002021-06-04T00:25:02-04:00Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 7 at 2021 12:06 AM

I did a search and it appears that you are in a Reserve unit. Have you done the legwork and contacted other units to see if they have an open spot for a 92Y, and contacted the unit about transferring? You should also talk to your unit training NCO to see if there is any update on a seat in a class.

You may have to wait until your reenlistment window opens and use that to get an MOS change.SGT Jonathan PersonsMon, 07 Jun 2021 18:51:36 -04002021-06-07T18:51:36-04:00Response by SSG Wilson Lucero made Jun 27 at 2021 9:51 AM

It has been ages since I did this switch, I believe it was ‘92. I may have continued to serve in my 71L slot, while going off to train for 92Y. I don’t imagine there will be a lack of room in a Reserve unit for that MOS, especially if it’s an HHC.SPC Richard SellatiSat, 10 Jul 2021 08:53:34 -04002021-07-10T08:53:34-04:002021-06-03T21:51:39-04:00
