In light of what is transpiring in Iraq at this time with ISIS taking Ramadi and their influence over the region growing. Would we (United States of America) be better off as a country if we would not have invaded Iraq and destroyed Saddam Hussein's government? Leaving the Iraqi people to determine his fate instead of getting involved?

I fully support(ed) the Iraq war as well as support further action there. We need to maintain a strong presence there. The biggest mistake we made was pulling out.

I'm not sure that the Iraqi people are capable of doing much of anything in the way of change, personally. We could stay there until the Middle East destroys every last man, woman, and child...and chaos will still reign supreme.

First of all, let's clear up one fact. We were drawn into Iraq on false pretenses. There were no WMDs or high level Al-Qaeda operatives. Saddam was a known entity that had a healthy respect for us anyway. If you consider that what we did to his army in a few months of Desert Storm was what the Iranians couldn't do in 9 years of war. Saddam was not going to provoke us.

Sorry. There were WMD's. (It's public knowledge and a Google search will easily turn it up if you care to learn). Saddam did purchase uranium (it was shipped to Canada to be processed into fuel for nuclear reactors after it was captured). Also, there was a legal justification for returning to Iraq in that Saddam had violated the armistice. And Saddam did provoke us by flaunting the terms of the armistice. Although it was clear that he could not resist a resumption of hostilities, he depended on a lack of will in the US.

CPT Durish, I would love to see a credible source for your assertion. Like any good piece of propaganda, you are saying enough to appear true but it's not relevant to the discussion since we had knowledge of that yellow cake since before 19991. "Israeli warplanes bombed a reactor project at the site in 1981. Later, U.N. inspectors documented and safeguarded the yellowcake, which had been stored in aging drums and containers since before the 1991 Gulf War. There was no evidence of any yellowcake dating from after 1991, the official said." (NBC News) So you get points for general knowledge but no points for justifying the war on that fact. It was shipped to Canada post conflict because Canada bought it.
As for violating terms of an armistice, the leader of North Korea has done the same thing and we have not mounted a "preemptive attack against them. Come on sir, exercise some intellectual integrity. So we did not have justification for an invasion based upon his being a bad boy. You know what they say, you are entitle to the facts - just not your own facts.
Oh, and please note that the uranium was not considered as WMD before or since the first gulf war. It was acknowledged (by the same NBC report) it could be used in a dirty bomb which is why after all those years we finally helped to get rid of it in 2008.

Well said SFC Robert Wheeler. Apparently the whole world knows that we went to war under false pretenses but they are still a few who will forever believe it was a right choice. Every republican candidate is saying it was a bad choice. Even baby JEB said it was a bad choice.

Hello Wheeler, I was there for Desert Shield/Storm and saw with my own eyes a large stockpile of artillery rounds inside a bunker with chemical weapons markings on them. Went back in with our NBC officer who confirmed it. I'm tired of hearing this BS that there were no WMD in Iraq.
