As in whether or not to accept them, or a choice if they could take command?

CPT (Join to see) - Ah, I see what you mean. Well, since you have no say in the one, it seems best that you do the other.

Considering the 2LT commander will be writing many of the NCO's evaluations, best if they accept and mentor him.

Just checked your profile. The answer as noted by others, yes. But if you are interested in success, you had best listen to your senior enlisted.

To be honest, if a 2LT was put in command of my unit, then I would have NO CHOICE but to accept it.

Valid point... I respect that mentality. To clarify, I'm looking for feedback more or less on whether someone should be limited by their rank? Following normal career path structure and progression absolutely serves its purpose.. however if there was an absolutely obscene scenario (in the Army anything is possible) that allowed for a LT to be competitive for command, could it play out?

Yes, it could play out. Here is my example. In my Medical BN, the HHC Commander slot is a 1LT slot. My current Commander, who is a CPT now, was put in command of that HHC when she first got her commission as a 2LT. And that is not the only time I have seen a 2LT be put in command of a unit. To put it another way from what I initially said, if a 2LT is put in command, then so be it. They are the boss. The Soldiers don't have to like it, but they better still show up and do the job.

To quote "Apocalypse Now" "Whose in Charge Here, Soldier?" "Ain't Chu?" We had all better be prepared to be the Unit Commander 2 or three levels above our rank.
