There are different types of insoles that can be used for better comfort. I still have my original 2 HW desert boots and 2 sets of CW. They are more comfortable than the black ones we used to wear. <br />Footwear is an individual choice. The regulation on them was pretty tight while I was in. I never bought after market boots. For personal use, you have free reign but if you're looking for on-duty footwear, there are regs, usually according to unit that say which boots and from which manufacturer are approved.

In a temperate area in the winter, you want some insulation. On a flight line or on concrete all day, you want something with cushioning.<br /><br />I loved the jungles and used primarily those or Cochran's.
