Would you pay for RallyPoint?

I notcied that Rally Point will start to have a premium account where it seems you might have to pay for it. I saw the offer for the free account if you claim it before the 9th. There are other websites like this that you have to pay for the premium account but, I have not paid for them. Together we served is the first social media site that comes to mind that wants you to pay for the account. Just wondering what everyones opinions are?

Depends on what's offered with the paid service. I'll tell you one thing, RallyPoint is quickly becoming an important networking tool amongst the military and if they decide to go public, I'll 'camp out on a curb' waiting for the IPO release.

It sounds as if it will go the way of all the other sites such as TWS, LI, and so on. We will lose that special comrade connection if other than regular SMs (Vet/Ret) and family are allowed to pay and join.

If we're going to have to start paying for this site, I'd just delete my account. There are many other networking sites that are free (LinkedIn) that will be used more as I get closer to retirement. As far as seeing who is where and when they are leaving, it's not really relevant to my MOS. This is a good place to network, don't get me wrong. But "Joe" has enough stuff they're paying for........and so do I.

I don't think I would pay for a premium account. As it stands right now, RallyPoint is a great tool in its current state. I believe there is room for this site to grow and still remain free for the most part.

No, this is an ok site but if the programmers want to make money out of it they can always sell advertisement to Navy Federal, Usaa or any other company that markets to the military

I will not pay for a premium service I do not forsee losing too much by not upgrading. The developers of the site will probably start to sell advertising space just like every other site out there.

I won't pay for it. I don't see the point. If you're looking for younger Joes to use the site, you won't get many that pay. Kids these days love free. RP should stay free, overall.

Has anyone verified this information?  This could be a phishing scam.  Lord knows there are plenty of people trying to make a buck off of service members and I think with this site still very much in a working-beta state, if/when RallyPoint was going to do this, it would be plastered all off the site.

Just an update, I emailed the CEO. This is what he said 

"No worries on your account. We have no intention to
charge service members or veterans for the features you currently enjoy. In the
future we will likely have premium accounts for corporate recruiters and
businesses who are looking to hire military personnel, but that will not affect
your access". I think it is really cool that they get back to you so quickly.

In today's technological environment, networking is huge for career progression; therefore if they charged for premium services (albeit my decision would be dependent on the depth of services), I wouldn't mind paying.

Nope will not Pay. Thats the reason I left the other sites. I dont use the Email feature here anyway. I have 2 email accounts now. Military and personal. I don't make the money that alot of people do and My DRILL pay doesnt even pay for drill, I lose everymonth driving and food and lodging so this would be one extra outta pocket. So with that being said no. This site is awesome and has alot going for it, I agree with the advertise ment as long as it didn't screw with the site operation with pop up and like apps on the phones.
